We need to buy a new washer. However, we've been looking at the Maytag's, since we're not replacing our dryer. Does anyone know or recommend a Maytag washer, possibly the Bravos model?

What can I do next?

Maytag's are not what they used to be. I would suggest looking at the Kenmore elites. They consistently get high marks from Consumer Reports. I have had an HE one for the last 4 years and LOVE it.
Cuts down on the number of loads I have to do and it gets the clothes so much cleaner.

Hi S.,

I wouldn't buy Maytag again if my life depended on it. We purchased the Neptune series when it was brand new and absolutely hate it. This was about 8 years ago when front loaders were brand new and no one knew to wipe out the seals after washing and leave the door open when new. As a result our washer is full of mildew with a few short months. I did bleach and clean it out as best we could as it was a huge investment and have since learned how to keep the mildew from growing again, but I still never feel like my clothes smell clean, especially the towels. We are finally going to get a replacement and are looking at the LG front loader, model number WM0642HW. It gets great reviews on Consumer Reports and now that we know to wipe out after each load and leave the door open when not in use, it should be a much better experience this time.

Good luck in your purchase!

I recently (less than 2 months ago)bought a Maytag washer and dryer. I have never had a Maytag, but always thought they were dependable. I didn't buy the most expensive, but I didn't buy the cheapest. I have no complaints on the dryer, but I'm not liking the washer. I already have a problem with it and it is LOUD!!! The water on all cycles will come out hot or cold, I guess just depending on its mood, even though it is set to cold. All hoses are hooked up correctly. I have tried contacting Maytag but am on hold for a while and have to hang up and try again. I would not buy another Maytag. The washer and dryer we had before was a cheap Fridgidare. Never had any issues with the washer, last year we had to replace something, forget what it was, on the dryer that was just due to normal wear. We had them for almost 10 years. So, don't get a Maytag.

I currently own a Whirlpool and would not suggest that brand to my enemy if I had one. Perhaps checking consumer reports. I usually check those before making a large purchase. I personally think Kitchen Aid and Maytag are great products. Good Luck!

i stick with kenmore or whirlpool. our old washer and dryer were just worn out and whirlpool and 12 years old. we replaced with new frontloading washer and dryer from whirlpool. have not had maytag but several salepeople warned me against them. the LG ones at home depot were good and cheaper but made in Korea and whirlpool was made in USA. the kenmore were $1000 more with all the insurance. so we bought from local dealer and bought whirlpool with the extra insurance. but fridge adn micro are kenmore, and they do stand behind the warranty and insurance. as we have had a claim with the micro and a lightening storm. so we got a new micro when it couldn't be fixed. so i use those two brands when we get to choose. if you can afford it go with the frontloaders, they conserve so much more water and energy.
good luck,
L.

I have a top of the line (about 4 trs old) Maytag Neptune front loader and dryer. I LOVE them and I have had no issues with either.....HOWEVER..........

I HAD a top of the line Maytag fridge AND dishwasher. The dishwasher died within 3 yrs and the fridge in 8. I have recently replaced both with Kitchen Aid and I LOVE my new appliances.

I will NOT be purchasing any more Maytag and I have my fingers crossed about my washer and dryer now as to how long before they die out.

Kenmore all the way!! Even if you happen to wind up with a faulty appliance (which is rare), they stand behind their name and warranties. I've used Kenmore appliances for more than 40 years.

My Kenmore dishwasher is 21 years old and still does a great job. I've had two refrigerators over a 42 year period and two washers and dryers over the same period of time.
