Washing Machine Recommendations

I currently have a Maytag Neptune front loader washer, which I need to replace. It has a moldy odor and is not washing clothes properly. I have gone on consumer reports and this is a recurring problem with the Neptune.

Can anyone recommend a washing machine that they just love?

I ended up with the Kenmore Elite 5T - ranked third on consumer reports. I went to the Sears Outlet in Darien. It has one scratch you can't even see and I saved $600 so was able to get a bigger capicity washer than at the regular store.

Hi, L. ~ We recently had some problems with our Neptune and the motor blew AGAIN for the second time in two years. We also had the problem with a moldy smell and so we were kind of glad that it went when it did. My husband did a lot of research and found that the Whirlpool Duet was rated one of the best. We got it about 2 months ago and we have been VERY happy with it. We will never buy a Neptune (or Maytag) for that matter ever again. :-(

FYI -- the Maytag Neptune was actually recalled due to the mold issue. Depending on how old your machine is you can get credits toward a new one (unfortunately, it can only be used for Maytag products)

I have the Whirpool Duet front-loading washer/dryer set with pedastals. I have been pleased. I had to buy them right before our 4th baby was born almost 6 mos. ago, and it's wonderful. These replaced our Kenmore set that we bought 11 years ago. So coming from a person who has to do laundry daily to keep up, washes cloth diapers, etc., I would recommend these. There are so many different useful cycles, but not too many to be confusing. I can soak, prewash, add a garment after the wash has started(in the first 8 min), wool, silk, a quick wash, etc. They look nice and make me want to do laundry. My children can help me too, because they can reach! They help with the whole process!
Good luck!

I love my front loader LG Tromm Steam Washer. It only uses the water what's needed for the load. It reduced our water bill the first months of use. It is a bit more expensive but with financing at Home Depot, we could afford it. It actually has an option on the wash cycle dial for "BABY WEAR" and hand/wool wash and just steam (as seen in the LG commercial).

Hi L.,
I'm not sure where you live, but I sell appliances for Sears in the Woodstock K-Mart. I have been working with appliances since 2001, and I wish I could have told you how many complaints we got on the Neptune. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that machine! As you probably already know from consumer reports, Kenmore makes an excellent line of washers and dryers, and Sears trains their employees very well on the technology, where as other companies do not.

If you want to come see me, I would love to help you choose something you will be happy with!!!

We've had the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer now for about 7 years and we love it! I have never had any issues with the washer. The dryer we just had to have a piece that holds the fan replaced, but it wasn't too expensive. It cleans really well, and I love that you can clean so much in one load.

If I was buying a washer/dryer today, I would either buy the Whirlpool Duet or the LG brand version of the same washer/dryer. The LG version is the same and has a great reputation, but cheaper. They are a foreign company, but whatever works. works I guess.

Frigidaire makes a great front loader. I have had one for five months and I love it. In that guarded hostile way one loves their washer anyway...

It's perfect though, it's huge inside so I can get more laundry run through at once and it's fast.

If only it would sort and fold the laundry too :-)
