Need Flu Shot for 5 Year Old!

My whole family has been vaccinated for the seasonal flu except for our 5 year old because the pediatrician doesn't have anymore of the dosage for her age. They don't know when they will receive more. Any other suggestions of where I can take her to receive a shot? Places like CVS, Walgreens, etc. will not do anyone under 18. I contacted the county and they have cancelled all future vaccination clinics because they also do not have the shots. Any help would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

I took my daughter to the Walgreens "take Care" clinic on Book and 95th in Naperville. They will immunize 2 and up and have the thimersol free shot.

J.,
I called a few places yesterday. It depends on where you live, but the Walgreens in both South Naperville and North Plainfield are out of them. The CVS on 119th and 59th said they still had some (we are going there today so we will know for sure soon!) and the age starts at 18 months. Hope that helps!

When I was at Walgreens Take Care Clinic to get mine there were a couple 5 year olds getting theirs. Some of the Walgreens were running out of vaccines, but I heard they were getting another batch in November.

Walgreens does do them for ages 2 and up. I copied this right from their web page:

Welcome to Take Care ClinicSM

We're here to bring everyday family healthcare to your neighborhood Walgreens. No appointments, no long waits, open 7 days a week and weeknights too. Most insurance welcome. Feels better already, doesn't it?

Seasonal flu shots offered for adults and children ages 2+ at select Take Care Clinics, based on availability.

Good luck to you.

Hi J. -

The Visiting Nurses Association of Fox Valley has its flu shot schedule on its website at vnafoxvalley.com. Currently, they are out of the vaccine, but are scheduled to resume clinics on 11/2/09.

I ended up taking my 2 children 22 months and 4 years old to the minute clinic inside CVS on Essington and Caton Farm Road. Our Dr. did not have any in either.

J.,

You need to go to a Walgreens of CVS that have the clinics. If you go on their websites you can find which locations have the clinics, and they both give shots for children. I believe Walgreens clinics do 2 and up and CVS does 18months and up.

Good luck.
