Where Can My Kids Get Flu Shots?

My daughters are 2 and 4, and I've been trying to get an appointment with our pediatrician for flu shots for quite a while. Every time I've called, they have told me to call back later. Well, today I called yet again, and they told me they are out. UGH! They told me to call back at the end of October! I'm a teacher, and kids are being sent home from school left and right. I just don't feel comfortable waiting that long. Is there any place I can take them to get flu shots now? I know a lot of places, like Walgreens, have them for adults, but you have to be at least 9. Can you think of any place else in the Fort Worth/Keller/Grapevine area where they are available for kids?

What can I do next?

I believe certain CVS Pharmacies with "The Minute Clinic" located inside are offering the flu shots for children over 18 months old. I would search online for a nearby CVS with this type of clinic and call them. Not all CVS pharmacies have this service.

Hope this helps.

Our pediatrician is also out of the flu shot and has my two kids on a waiting list. I talked to them yesterday about your same concern because other kids I know are getting sick. I was told that there is other sickness going around right now but it isn't the seasonal flu. Flu season really peaks around January and February. I was told that they really recommend waiting until late October to get the flu shot because it is only effective for a certain length of time. If children get the flu shot in September then it may not still be effective by the time flu season really gets going. Also, our doctor's office says that they will fax a letter to any CVS/Walgreens type place giving permission for my kids to have the flu shot. She said that this is all they need to give the shot to kids. I haven't tried this so I'm not sure if they will do it with just a note. We're going to wait until it comes in at our pediatrician's office.

HealthFirst Clinic on Boat Club Road in NW Fort Worth (Lake Worth area) has them for kids. But it is a walk in basis....they see alot of Medicaid patients so it is VERY much a clinic.....sorry that might sound ugly but I am used to my family doctor and have to take my foster kids to this clinic because of the medicaid. The # there is ###-###-#### I know they have other offices around Fort Worth too.....

Last year when my pediatrician's office ran out, they simply wrote us a prescription for the shot so that the pharmacy-type places could administer them. Maybe ask your pedi for a prescription so that you can go anywhere to get it? I got one just yesterday at our grocery store pharmacy, so I know there are a lot still out there.

Hi!
I just got mine last Friday. Check with your county's website. Denton County is providing some clinics where you can get them for $20. Their website shows that tomorrow will be their last schedule for September (I don't know if they will continue to do it on October). I know that by mid October they will giving the shot for the swine flu. Here is the website: www.dentoncounty.com/health

Try Care Now. The one off of Jacksboro Hwy is really nice and clean and the staff is wonderful. That maybe your best bet. We're going to try there as well...

Flower Mound Pharmacy gave me and my two year old flu shots. You may want to call to double-check. The pharmacist said they were running low on doses. Also, you might need a prescription for the flu shot for your two year old from your pediatrician.

Make sure where ever you get them that you make sure they are from the single dose vials as the multidose vials still contain themerisol (mercury) which is not good for the little ones.

Hi Kim. You might try looking up your county Health Department and giving them a call. I live in Denton County, and our dr.'s office ran out of flu shots earlier this month. They suggested I contact the Denton County Health Department. Luckily they had a flu clinic for anyone ages 6 mos and up last Friday in Lewisville, so my 7 year old was able to get his flu shot there. HTH ya!
Good luck!

most of the Care Now type places are doing them for peds...places like Walgreens and CVS will not do the younger one's like that, they have to be done in a medical facility....

*****thought I would edit so I don't give out what looks like wrong info...the others are right, Walgreens and CVS will do them with a script....just not you walking in saying I want one for my kiddos :-)
