Hello...
so we're painting our house. For my daughter, it'll be a lavender room with a deep deep shade of purple for the trims (all over... windows, closet, door frame...ect )...and for my 6 year old boy(who's super picky) he wants a blue room... the room is not big, has 3 windows and a door (for the outside)... if i make a light matte blue room with a dark blue or chocolate trim (the windows and the door), how will that look???? is that weird??? should i leave his windows and door white, but that wont match with the rest of the house... all over the house, i'm making everything in neutrals, (coffee, olives, lattes...) with chocolate windows and doors and trims... to funk it up a bit :)... so what do i do for him??? his furniture will be also in a dark shade of brown, so is it too much with the dark trims everywhere??? HELP ME!!!! i'm in color panic :)
If you are worried about too much brown in his room, could you paint hte door trim the brown you want and then the actual door a lighter shade of brown? Also remember that the rug and window coverings can help to break up the overall look. Personally I would not pick too light of a blue, maybe more of a medium blue, going more for colorful and less for contrast-y.

We have one bedroom that is light blue with white trim but our house has white trim other places. I think a beige or brown would be good for a boys room with brown furniture. Then accents can be different shades of blues.

My sons room is light blue matte like wall, white trim in windows, doors and closet. Our son's furniture is dark brown (bed, night table, bookshelves). The colors in the room are matte blue, dark blue, brown, and light brown. Mixing in all those colors make the room look very interesting. I thought that the white trim broke up all the blue shades and brown in the room. In our house, all the rooms look slightly different which gives it character and especially for my very picky boy who wants his own space in blues/browns. My thinking on that was if he's happy then I'm happy.
If you use "matte" paint... it will get soiled/stained more.
I would suggest using at least an "eggshell" or "satin" finish on the walls.
That way, it can be wiped clean with a damp sponge.
How about a light turquoise blue?
with the chocolate trim? Or with an orange trim?
Or a Tiffany blue? (you know, the Tiffany store, blue).
Better than just a plain ol' baby blue.
I don't know how adventurous you are, but perhaps you could do a cool mural. This particular artist is in the Twin Cities (MN), but thought it might spark some ideas.
How about you find a blue/grey slate color. That should match better with the rest of the colors in your home than a baby blue. I'd keep the trim white. See how it goes and if you need more color, you can always add brown or beige/coffee trim later. Brown might be too much.
When I moved into my house it was all olives, dark green and dark tan. I thought it was too dark. I repainted the whole house in lighter colors. I also like white trim in the bedrooms to lighten up the place. My bathroom is lavender with white trim. My bedroom is seafoam with white trim. My son's bedroom is light blue with white trim. But if you like the darker colors then you should use the colors you want. However, I would let your son pick his own trim since it's his room and you said he was picky. It will make him happy. even if it doesn't match the rest of the house.
