Hi there,
My seven year old son was just perscribed the Daytrana patch for ADHD. I tried to apply is this morning and had so much trouble seperating the patch from the backing. Has anyone experienced this and if so do you have any tips on how to get the backing off. Also, I am wondering how effective the patch has been for your child. My son has been a number of different meds in the last two years and we are still trying to find the right one. I am just looking for advice from moms that have used the Daytrana patch. I am not looking for alternate meds or natural products. Thank you anyway but I just need to know about Daytrana for now. Thanks and I am looking forward to reading your responses.

What can I do next?

My son was on Daytrana patch for awhile, and it was very tricky to put on, and to keep it on. It sometimes fell off at school, and we would get a call from school. He is now on Strattera, a pill he takes daily in the morning, and it is working better. I don't recall how we peeled it off to apply it on him, other than trying to bend it at the corner maybe? I just remember it was difficult. Good luck!

I have had 2 sons on these for 3 years. At first we did struggle with peeling the backing off. We store them at room temp (in the summer they need to be in and A/C environment). If we have trouble, we will put them in the freezer for about 2 min prior to applying to their skin. Usually they keep their hand over it for about a minute to warm it back up and ensure it is sticky enough to stay in place.

I hold the patch between my fingers and thumb and curve it a bit before bending it back at the split. It usually opens a gap where you can get your other thumb under the backing.

I am very happy overall with the Daytrana patch. We have a son with a VERY high metabolism and a 12 hour pill only worked for about 6 hours. Having it absorb through the skin ensures it works the whole time. I would have to say my biggest complaint was finding a pharmacy that would keep it in stock. We finally had to have a talk with the Manager of our Walgreens in order to make it happen.

Feel free to email me if you have any other questions. I will give you my phone number in an email if you want me to better explain how we get them off.....

T.,
Sorry to ask, but I'm just wondering why you are so opposed to trying natural methods.... I drugged my son years ago and wish that I hadn't, now that I know there were other things I could have done. Hindsight is 20/20.
Best Wishes,
M.

Absolutely. My son is 10 and has been on the patch for about 4 months now. We recently had to increase the dose, but other than that, he's doing GREAT on the patch. As for the backing....yeah, that changes with each batch. My suggestion...although nothing works very well...is to fold the patch along the split in the back and work from the smallest corner. It is very difficult and you will likely pull some of the adhesive loose. However, on the flip side, when the backing comes off easily, they don't stick to the skin very well. I wish you the best of luck!

I am so glad to find this post. I have to say the first month daytrana was good he still ate which was GREAT and was not so bad at picking his fingers. This month it has been AWFUL, he will not eat as much and he has been SO WHINY after he gets home from school and emotional. I have no clue what we will do cause I want him to continue to do good in school, I am looking into the natural stuff like Listol or Synaptol. The Daytona worked great but with the emotional stuff I am not liking. As for getting the patch backing off. I fold in the middle and pull one side back the bend the other side and hopefully it will come off. I am not sure about putting in the freezer that might do something with the dosage. I would double;e check on that. If anyone wants to chat or anything about the patch please feel free to email me. ____@____.com I have nobody to talk to cause people say I am nuts giving him something but I need him to do well in school and the would hyper ways drives me nuts :(

Try keeping them in the freezer that helped with most of them when we used them only a couple didnt want to come off the backing. As far as effectiveness nothing has worked for my daughter so Good Luck.
