Need a Twin Mattress for First Bed
Hello-
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good and inexpensive twin mattress for my almost 2 year old son's first bed?
Thanks!

Hi!
I'd highly recommend Costco (maybe even BJ's or Sam's). We got a great price on a full size mattress & boxspring there. Popular brand too. (Sealy - plush). Good luck!

Big Lots on Hwy 92 sells furniture. I would go with new vs. used just because mattresses can harbor some pretty nasty stuff. If you end up spending a little more than you want, it's probably a good place to indulge -- a good mattress will last him until he leaves home!
Oh, Ikea beds are great too -- and the price is right. Gotta love Ikea!

We got our mattresses at Sam's club. I don't remember what they cost but it couldn't have been THAT much seeing how penny pinching my DH is.

I would suggest Aaron Rents clearance center in Norcross. They have new or barely used mattresses. I have bought from them and found NEW mattresses for a FRACTION of the cost anywhere else. I put a good mattress cover and save TONS of money. I think the twin mattress was $50/$60.

C., I agree that IKEA has great prices and higher standards. Many American companies also strive for safety in their products but many are after your dollar ONLY. My most stern advice is to go NEW! And NEW can be dangerous also. Many mattresses are treated with substances that are really harmful to humans – especially our little ones. Teflon, for instance is very dangerous to ingest or absorb into our skin. Buy assurance from the store that it is ALL NEW and SAFE material. Your mattress is one of the most important purchases from the crib to old age so make it a well-thought-out decision. And then use non-toxic products to clean the bedding because we spend so much of our life in those sheets and pillowcases. Whether you know it or not, there are many neurotoxins in most laundry detergents that we wash the bedding in. Then we spend 6-12 hours a day in that environment absorbing those harmful substances into our skin – that largest organ in our body. Do you suppose that has anything to do with so many strange new diseases showing up in our lives today?
NEVER buy a used or rebuilt mattress from someone you don’t know or share the same standards with. Families share bacteria that are friendly but would be harmful to other families. There are too many critters that are harbored in mattresses – dust mites, insect larva, bacteria and other allergens. There are legitimate and licensed companies that actually take mattresses off the side of the road and supposedly clean them and put new covers on them and sell them to used furniture stores. Scary info I know, but better safe than sorry when that surprise illness shows up and you find you could have prevented it with $50 more, isn’t it? Bedroom furniture is fine to sell at garage sales but toss those mattresses to someone who will use the metal and destroy the fiber materials or give to someone who has a real NEED without the resources to buy new.

IKEA has several, and they're ready to carry out. So, no delivery hassles.
