Hi ladies! If you remember, I'm the one who made the post about the husband who treated me like a 1950's wife(see past posts). Anyway, I have decided to leave him as no amount of talking can turn him into the kind of man I want to spend the rest of my life with. Of course, he has threatened me and told me that he will take our babies from me and he'll see to it that I don't get a dime, but he doesn't scare me. ;)
Please keep in mind that my husband makes very good money and has "connections" so I'm probably out of my league. I have no income, and am 6 months pregnant so getting a job at this point is almost impossible.
I have never done this sort of thing before nor do I have any attorney friends, so I was wondering if any of you can recommend someone AWESOME!! Someone who will fight for me!!:)
I know that I am a good person, a wonderful Mom, and am optimistic by nature so I refuse to let him scare me into submission or let this get me down. I just want to be "ok" and for my children to have what they need. I want to be able to afford daycare,food,clothes,toys... all the while,my husband drives a Mercedes 500 SL. But I dont care about that stuff as I know what is really important in life, but I DO want to be happy and for my babies to grow up with a happy Mom and optimistic attitudes. So I need your recommendations. I know that when I was young, my Mon had a hard time getting child support from my Dad but he didnt have much money at the time anyway..in my case however,my husband has lots,he is just very sneaky and does illegal acts to trick the IRS. He has 5 or 6 different bank accounts and puts a lot of things in the "company name". Help me, ladies! I need a lawyer who is smart with the personality of a PIT BULL! Thanks! And wish me luck. :)

Rita Boyd is a good "pit bull" type attorney. If you just want a very knowledgeable and good attorney, one that previously worked with the attorney general's office, I would call Jim G. Cobb, Esq., 701 Commerce #200, Dallas, Texas 75202 at ###-###-####. Rita Boyd is ###-###-####. I would talk to both of them and see which one you prefer. Good luck!

Hi J., I raised two daughters alone and it was very hard. I would suggest you try marriage counseling first. You are going to have a hard time finding a job and day care is expensive. I run a day care center from my home, so I could help you with that. If you have been married less than ten years, you will not get any thing. The grass is not always greener. Try and work it out. Best of luck, S.

Check out all of the family laws first. Texas use to be a state that would not even begin divorce proceedings while you are pregnant. Just a thought.

Prepaid Legal is absolutely excellent - it is a monthly payment plan of about $35 a month - but you have to have the plan in place a couple of months before you decide to file for divorce. Anytime there is any type of legal question such as signing a contract - or a dispute over a repair - or any problem - you simply call the 800 number and they assign an attorney that specializes in that area of expertise. Call me for more details: ###-###-#### Ross and Matthew are the leading law firm in Dallas and they are the lawyers pre-paid legal hires to work for their clients! You can watch an intro movie at: www.prepaidlegal.com/go/cindyrussell and then click on the article about Pre-paid legal being on Court TV. Pre-paid legal has helped me several times with questions I had, situations I didn't know what to do with. You probably won't be interested in the business side (that part of the company helped me meet living expenses in college) - but just listen to the video and about one minute into it they will describe the legal representation part of the company

J.,

Where are you located at? I know a great attorney in dallas, tx that could help you and would charge all his attorney fees to your husband. He is very aggressive and a bull dog but in a sophisticated way. Let me know if you are in the dallas area and I will give you his number. Have you tried asking for government assistance that you will not be responsible to pay back but your husband will. Let me know I have been through this just recently and would love to share my story with you and help you out. Thats what women should be doing for each other. But keep your head up and do not let him scare you. Think about your children and do what is best for them. Email me at ____@____.com or call me at ###-###-#### anytime that is my cell.

I think that I just read a story about myself. I too am pregnant with our 2nd child due next week and have the same issues with my husband. Sad story. I know I live it every day. There is a lawyer that isn't a divorce lawyer but knows the best of the best in every law field out there. His name is Steven L. Green. He is located off of Oaklawn. I would call him and see if there is someone that he can send you to. Like I said He has great connections.

You will have to wait until child is born to obtain a divorce but the bright side of this is, he will have to pay you support until your child is born. That will give you time without the money worries to make adjustments. Check out the attorneys listed for it makes all the difference in the world. They will be able to tell you right up front what you can expect. Good luck and God Bless.

I don't have a lawyer, but I have some advice from what you wrote. You said something about illegal acts with the IRS and several bank accounts in the company name. Do not let your husband know you know this information. If he does know you know, DON'T mention it or bring it up.

I had a friend going through a divorce. Both of them were lawyers....you can imagine the litigation for that divorce! In any case, they were in separate rooms for the negotiations. My friend refused to be in the room with her husband during the lawyer negotiations so there was no bullying, or scare tactics or so he wouldn't make her feel badly or say something directly to her. Anyway, the lawyers were going back and forth from room to room with the negotiations and when he wouldn't give on something and was becoming a pain, she told her lawyer about some under the table thing he did, some money he hid from her (and the courts), some IRS issues.....her lawyer went to the other room and told him and his lawyer what she had just said.....and her lawyer immediately came back with what she wanted. :)

If he is so controlling, just be careful what you say to him or let him know what you are doing. He is going to try to bully it out of you but just keep quiet and only talk to your lawyer. Let your lawyer know what you feel you need, what he has done to you and if necessary, what he has done illegally. It will SOOOOO help!

Good luck! My lawyer deals in family law so does divorce, child custody, wills, estate, etc... but I don't know that he has a 'pit bull' personality. It is Patrick Wright of the Wright Firm. He has four offices in Lewisville, Plano, Frisco and Dallas.
