R., yes, check your local library. Most I have been to do have passes to great museums and Aquariums. Some still require a small fee, but it is much better than paying the full price.

Not sure what town you live in, but most of the public libraries around Boston give out discount museum passes. You have to belong to the library (free, you just need to sign up so you have a card with i.d. number). You need to book it in advance--online or in person--and can usually pick up the pass up to a week before you go. I'm taking my kids to the Childrens Museum today..normally $43 for two adults and two kids. But with the pass it is $2 p.p. for a total of $8! We've done a bunch this summer that we couldn't have done without the passes. You should look into it. Good luck!

Check your local library. I know in Boston they have passes to the aquarium and the last time I used the passes it was free for up to 4 people. I don't think they give out passes in the summer but for the other seasons I think they do. You might have to book in advance with the library but it is worth it.

Library passes as others have said. The only problem is that they don't participate in the pass program during the summer. But check with your library after Labor Day, I am almost positive Lynn Library has them.

Local public libraries often have free passes or discount passes to the various museums. Unfortunately, I believe the Aquarium doesn't participate in this program. My husband and I invested in a membership. It's more money initially but you can visit many times over the course of the year. We've gone at least ten times, and when we divide the cost over that many visits, it's much more reasonable. Best,

I'm not sure about the aquarium but I know that my library in Woburn has free passes and discounted passes to many of the Boston places of interest. The only downside is you have to book way in advance, which kind of isn't my family's style - Anyway, might want to try the library!

Go to your local library and you should be able to reserve a pass. It is a discount that helps considerably for all sorts of children's museums/zoos/aquarium/science museum, etc. You don't pay a thing for the pass, depending on what place the pass is for, you may pay $2 per person or more, but it usually get in up to 4 people, which is nice too. I do this whenever I want to take my son somewhere. You can also do it online through your library. My local library is part of the Minuteman Network and all affiliated libraries provide passes. Note: sometime you pick up the pass and hand it in to the place you are going, but sometimes you have to return the pass to the library. Either way, it is way cheaper than going off the street! If you live in the area you can go to you local library and reserve a pass that will get you either free or discounted entry on a specific day (I know Belmont, Cambridge, Arlington, Somerville at least do it). You do have to reserve it in advance, sometimes as much as a week or two, but it is worth it.

If you're planning on going more than once, or want to make it a group trip with friends or family, you could also consider a membership. It costs around $125 for the year (I don't remember exactly), but gets you and something like 6 other people in for free on each visit. You also get IMAX tickets and invitations to special programming, as well as early entrance on some days. I have a membership and go frequently with my toddler and her friends, and also use it as a fun destination for when grandparents visit. When I bring a friend I usually get them in for free and they pay for parking or treat for lunch afterward, so net-net it makes the cost of your day a little lower.

Have you tried the local library? I have gotten passes the the aquarium, the museum of science and other places. I live in North Reading and the pass we have only gives a discount, not free, but it is a big discount.

check your town library. in watertown, where i live, they have free or discounted passes. you just call to reserve them for the day you want them, pick them up and then return them later that day or the next day. they have them for like everything - children's museum, museum of science, mfa, etc. Good luck. (PS yes the aquarium's fees are appalling and totally out of line for today's family. Personally, I think people should boycott.)

You can check into a membership for 2. It probably isn't too much more than what you will be paying for a 1-day admission. With the membership, you can then visit the aquarium for a year anytime you want and they have special events for members only.

Also, check with your local library. They sometimes have passes.

Try the library. I know they used to give free tickets to the aquarium and the children's museum. By the way, the children's museum is $1 from 5-9 on Fridays.

Many local public library have passes for free or reduced entry into specific museums, events, etc. Patrons can borrow for the passes for a specific time period -- one or two days, I think. All you do is reserve them, pick 'em up, and return them.

You can call or check on line to see whether your library has passes to the NEA are available. Otherwise, You could also call or send an email the NEA, ask if there are any special offers.

You may find that the library has passes to other places that you'd like to go to.
