Nanny's Last Day. Should We Do Something?

Our beloved nanny is parting ways with us after 6 years. Our kids will be in school, and we just don't need her anymore.
I feel like we should do something, but I'm not sure what's appropriate. We will truly miss her, and she adores our kids.

Do others do anything special? I don't have many pictures of her with the kids, unfortunately.

What can I do next?

I would think 2 weeks pay would be an appropriate parting gift--in a nice, handwritten note outlining the very real and valuable impact she's had on your kids and family!

Bittersweet, I'm sure, to tell her goodbye, especially because of what it really means. Your kids are growing up...

I like your automatic thought of a picture - that's a pretty easy thing to do. Take a lot of them and then pick one you think she will like, frame it and send it to her.

I do hope that you will consider giving her a severence bonus as a parting gift. That will mean a lot to her. A glowing letter of reference, even if she has found another situation, would also be a wonderful thing to do.

Give a parting bonus. Have dinner with her with the kids. And keep in touch if she was a part of your family. I am a nanny for a family. The children are getting older. The oldest will be 13 soon. I know my time will be coming to an end but we are now friends so we will still be in touch.
