"Naked Baby" - Am I a Bad Mommy?

Ok, here's a goofy question, but I got paranoid about it today. Am I a "bad mom" for letting the little guy hang out in his diaper in public in this heat (my first summer in TX)??

I have a 15 month old boy who, like his dad, "runs hot" (Dad can hang out in 40degrees wearing shorts and a t-shirt). He's most comfortable, especially this time of year, in his diaper (my son, not my husband ;). I don't have the air on super high at home since fuel is SO expensive, so he's not cold in the house. When we take short walks, or run to the store, sometimes we just go - he's in his diaper and happy. I don't have to fight to put clothes on him in the heat (he's pretty good about wearing them, anyway, thank goodness, and isn't a diaper fighter (whew!)).

Thanks for your input~ :)

So What Happened?

Thank goodness! I figured I was doing ok, but first time mommy insecurity set in! :)

Thanks, MOMS!

You are not a bad mother for wanting your baby to be comfortable. As long as he is loaded up on sunblock, he will be fine. I will say though, that it is a common misconception that the less clothes, the cooler you will be. If you notice construction workers working out in the middle of the afternoon with longs pants and lonsleeve shirts, it is for good reason. The clothes(cotton, because it allows air in) absorb your sweat and become damp, which keeps you cooler and the benefit is you protect your skin from the sun. I found a little cloth hat and I get it a little damp before we go to the park and it really helps keep my baby cooler.

So long as he has sunblock on if he's outside for more than a few minutes I think you're fine. I could never let my son go without shorts because he started taking off his own diaper by 5 months old, but it's certainly ok.

I hope you're not considered a bad mommy for that! I let our son hang out completely naked at home while we were potty training and we lived in the mountains in Utah...and it was winter! Yes, he was warm, the heat was on and he didn't stay naked all the time.

Don't worry about it! Just make sure he doesn't get sunburned!

My baby boy is only in a diaper right now! He can get away with it now cuz he's a cute baby! Let him be comfortable!

I don't think so. I see lots of kiddos hanging out in their diapers. There are always going to be people that have something to say, but you're his mommy & it's your business! I wouldn't worry about it. :)

I sure hope no one said anything to you about that. GEES.... It is TEXAS....it is HOT.... He is a toddler. I see nothing wrong with it.

We are relaxed at my house and certainly don't get uptight about that. You hang in there and stay cool!
