Hello, Moms . . . do any of you know which company/website is a good, reputable one when it comes to mystery shopping?

I am looking for a way to make extra money or some help to purchase items that we may need without really having to take an extra job or spend time away from the family.

Please let me know if you can help me with any information.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello, everyone. Thank you for the information. . . Just as I thought. Survey taking isn't worthwhile either. So much time for so little cents. Most likely won't do it but the free meals sounds good . . only if I can bring along the family . . . :0p Oh, well. Thanks again.

Hello! Just to respond to your question, you will not actually get rich by mystery shopping, however you can earn a bit of extra money, get discounted groceries, receive free auto services, get reimbursed for a meal out on the town, etc., and it does add up after awhile! I started mystery shopping with BestMark several months ago and have been making about $500 extra per month. It's not a ton extra, but I do it in my spare time in between bringing my kids to their activities and such. I would definitely recommend it though if you have time, because like I said, although you aren't going to get rich, you do receive perks that really add up after a period of time. Moreover, I am not obligated to take a certain number of jobs per month, so I just take mystery shopper jobs when it is convenient for me. Also, BestMark never charges any fees, so I can stay in their system and wait to see what opportunities in my area. If you want to check them out, I would definitely recommend visiting http://www.bestmark.com/become_a_shopper.htm

My mom does this type of thing regularly and exactly what some of the other posts have indicated-it doesn't pay for your time! My mom goes to the stores, like Kohls, looks at their inventory and does her paperwork which takes about 2-3 hours between the shop and the paperwork. I think she gets $10/hour and no mileage reimburstment. She has also done restaurants, which they reimburse you for the meal. It's ok if you do it just for a free meal, but not as a source of income.

I did this for a short while and it is not worth it. You may get $10 for shopping McDonalds, but you have to remember the names, check the place inside and out and your order has to be very specific. They tell you what to order and ask for salt and pepper packets on the side...etc. So not worth it.

Yep, not a good idea to MAKE money.

I was all signed up with a company too. Even signed up for a shop 5 minutes from our house. But I cancelled at the last minute. It took over an hour to do the PRE paperwork the night before. Then, at the end of the paperwork, it gave more details about the shop. It would take about 2 more hours of my time. (YOU CAN NOT BRING YOUR KIDS WITH!) THEN, you still have to do MORE paperwork after the shop. It is VERY specific. If you leave anything out, they don't pay you! Oh yeah, and this "shop" that I signed up for was only going to pay $15 anyways!

I had been watching shops for awhile before they called me to do the one close to my home. NONE of them were "worth it". Because if you mess up anything, they won't pay you. It is all very specific. Descriptions of workers, store, areas, items, etc. NONE of the shops allowed you to bring your kids with either.

PS> IF the CHARGE you to sign up, IT"S A SCAM!

I had looked into this a while ago.. I've never actually done mystery shopping.. but I was interested in doing it.. I took a workshop at a local adult education place... and I purchased a book called "The Mystery Shopper's Manual: How to get paid to shop in your favorite stores, eat in your favorite restaurants, and more!" by Cathy Stucker.. her website is www.idealady.com The book is very good.. in it she lists reliable companies that you can sign up with.. you won't make a lot.. it's not a get rich quick thing... also you should not sign up with any company that asks you to pay.. she stresses that in the book.

On her website you can sign up for an email course on mystery shopping and you can get hints!

I have looked into this as well, and mystery shopping almost never actually brings money into your house. Anymore, most of it is shelling out money on a credit card (at a restaurant, hotel, store, etc.), and then getting reimbursed for the money that you spent. I do have a site somewhere that is reputable, but again, I would not use this as a way to bring in extra money...it's mostly just a way to get out on the town free of charge.

I don't know of any mystery shopping sites, but if you look at my blog at www. makemoneyonline.tonoftips.net you can find ways to earn extra money online.

I used to be a secret shopper for Safeway - while you get paid mileage and time - you do not get reimbursed on money spent. You have to visit EACH area of the store and get customer service and do it discretely.

The only time I made money on it - was when I did far away stores (mileage) and using coupons. However, when doing this - you are doing more than one store in a day - so you will need to keep a cooler and ice in your car as well.....

I've not found a secret shopper site that is really worth it - to be honest. If you have to pay to sign up - it's a scam - that is the bottom line.
