Have you taken him to the doctor? If not, I would go right now. I hope he feels better soon!

Welcome to Mamapedia.

Take him to the Emergency room. If he has a fever and is vomiting for more than 12 hours - take him to the ER. You don't say how old is he. More information is usually helpful. Nor do you say what his temperature is.

If he is vomiting what looks like coffee grinds - get him to the ER immediately.

When they don't eat, their body is burning its stores (fat & protein), and it's called ketosis. It's not dangerous, but it makes their breath smell kind of like acetone, or nail polish remover. If you're concerned, call the pediatrician. It's perfectly normal, though. Good luck! =)

I would get him seen. It might just be all the vomiting has left him with nothing but stomach acid, but maybe he's dehydrated or something else is doing on.

Both of my son's breath smell like chemicals when they are sick. Always have. That is exactly how I knew they were sick each and every time, mostly with an ear infection or chest congestion. It does not mean he has ingested anything like a chemical.

- Call the 24/7 nurse advice hotline. They'll be able to run down your symptoms, and let you know whether to come to the ER immediately, or treat at home and to come in if x, y, or z happens.

- If he's ingested anything... call Poison Control

My very first indication that my kids are getting sick is the change in the way their breath smells!

Always been that way...their breath gets very FUNKY when they get sick!

Call the pedi, When my GD is sick, I first know because of the smell of her breath, but it doesn't smell like chemicals. But each child is different so this may be his "sick breath." It doesn't hurt to call, especially with this awful stomach virus that's going around.

Same thing with my daughter years ago. I took her to the doctor with my concerns of her being sick and her breath smelling like "airplane glue". He absolutely confirmed by sniffing her mouth that she had "been fasting" due to being sick and dehydrated. He also said, my ability to detect the smell was a "knack" and that not many people have that knack. Kind of like a dog sniffing out and detecting cancer, (so to speak)0. So good for you. Now you have a leg up on knowing when your little one is sick enough to see a doctor.

Call to his pediatrician now, he/she will tell you to bring him to her/his office or will give you indications. It may be several things since a stomach flu, to pneumonia.
