what do you all know about something like this? My son had 5 cavaties (much to my surprise!!-- after much thought, I realized that he eats way too much dried fruit, yes, all natural dried fruit and no flossing gets you 5 cavaties!)
Well, he won't let them near him (due to his dentist pulling 2 teeth, he is too scared) and this is the alternative. I am not sure this is needed? These are his baby teeth. Not to mention the expense, I am concerned about him being put 'under' too.
What do you all think?

edit : this will be done in a hospital by an Anesthesiologist

What can I do next?

Yes we found out the hard way that fruit juice and RAISINS are a recipe for a huge dental problem.
My daughter had a root canal & several fillings at age 3. She had the work done in several visits and was given an oral sedative. This was 14 years ago and I did what was recommended by 2 different dentists.
Today there are several 'holistic' dentists so I would get a second opinion from one.

Lynn-take him to an alternative dentist. There is a great one in Hoffman Estates!! I agree-he is to young and I would check with someone else!!

Cavities are also from a pH imbalance in the body!!

Let me know if you want his info!!

my son also has 5 cavities (he's 6), one of which ended in getting a crown put on, and our pediatric dentist put's them out, but it is for a short time and he uses 100% oxygen to bring them out of it so they are not groggy. We have had no problems with this and the first time they did one he was only 3. I would recommend using a pediatric dentist.

Did the dentist say anything about Nitrise or laughing gas? My sons have a huge fear of having work done too. A little Nitrise and all is good! The expense is not that much more and worth it.

My daughter also had several cavaties when she was five. The dentist first tried to fill them with just numbing the mouth. She was terrified and was shaking before he even began! We decided to put her under general anesthesia so she would not be afraid of the dentist for life. Without going under it would take 2 or 3 visits this way he did it all in one shot, and my daughter never even realized what was going on. It was totally safe, and I am glad we did it this way! I was with her when she fell asleep and woke up. When we came home she took was a little sleepy. By 4:00 she was back to her normal self. I believe this was the best way to go about filling the cavaties without scaring her! Let me know if you have any questions,

Our dentist also sealed her teeth while she was there. She has not had any cavaties since then.

I have had a horrible mouth all my life. 12 cavities as a child and as an adult and 3 root canals and 3 crowns later...I floss and brush both of my kids teeth! Luckily no problems other than the need for ortho work on my soon to be 6 yo.
(She has my teeth!) Yes they need to be taken care of b/c if not they can hurt the adult teeth underneath. I agree with going to a pediatric dentist or just another one for a 2nd opinion or an alternate way. Just remember that he is NOT TOO YOUNG for this procedure. If he goes to the hospital, it may be covered under insurance. Do you not have dental insurance? If not look into all kids in illinois for coverage. Good Luck. FYI: I buy the battery operated toothbrushes (tooth tunes for the older one) which help with timing and also try the hummingbird flosser for them or you can buy one time use neon "flossers" for kids.

My kids go to Dr. Fredric Tatel in Tinley Park. He uses all high pressure water to fill cavities. My son's first one he was in & out with in 5 minutes. They actually beg me to take them to the dentist. I sugget you look somewhere like our dentist. Where they do not want to use drugs. My son had to go under once when he was 13 months old he fell & cracked his fron tooth & it had to be removed, it was a terriable feeling, I cried and left the room. Call Dr. Tatel's office. That little body just looked lifeless.
