My One Year Old Only Has Two Teeth.

My one year old daughter only has her two front bottom teeth. She did not get them till she was about ten months. Her pediatrician is not concerned but I read an article that said that if your child only has two teeth by their first birthday then you should take them to the dentist and that most babies have 8 teeth by their first birthday. Should I be concerned?

What can I do next?

My daughter only had 1 tooth when she turned 1 yr old. So don't be worried. She is almost 4 now and has all of them.

Don't worry, this is completely normal. My first two girls had all their teeth by the time they turned 1, but my third girl didn't get a tooth until she was 1. Every child is different, but I believe that once they start coming, they'll be one after another, maybe two or three at the same time. My middle daughter cut four teeth at the same time! So don't be concerned, everything is ok! You could take her the dentist if it would make you feel better, but I can tell you what they will say for free! Just start brushing what teeth she has with baby toothpaste (no flouride) and just wait and try to keep her comfortable. Oh, and lots of baby orajel, and baby tylenol and motrin. Sometimes they get sick when there teething, they might run a fever, have a runny nose and diahrea. So for the fever, give her tylenol first and then if it comes back before it's time for another dose of tylenol, then give her motrin. You can alternate between the two. It totally worked for my girls. Oh, and with the diarhea, she will probably get the kind that irritates her bottom no matter how many times you change her, or how quickly you change her, so expect diaper rash and get some creamy desitin. The creamy kind is easier to spread, and it's uncomfortable to have that rash touched, so don't get the regular desitin cause you'll have to warm it in your hand before you put it on, cause it's pretty firm stuff. If it's not creamy then you'll have to press on her bottom to get it to go on and it hurts, so make sure it's the creamy kind. Another thing for fever, is a lukewarm bath. This really helps bring fever down and will make her feel better. If she doesn't need a bath then just let her play in the water, and squeeze water on her head. My son did the same thing, i wouldn't worry about it. I was always told the longer it takes to get there teeth the better they will be when they get older. I was concerned as well, he had only two teeth until one and a half then got the top two. He didn't get anymore until he turned two. He is now three and has a mouth full of teeth.

Let me know what you find out, my 13 month old finally got his 5th tooth today, he's had only 4 since he was 9 months old, two up and two down. My other child had most of his teeth by this time so I'm not sure what to think!

I just wanted to add that my baby has been getting his new teeth about every other month. He had two teeth at seven months, four teeth at nine months and now almost six teeth at eleven months.

Hi. Don't worry about the teeth. My son still had no teeth when he turned one. Once they started coming in, it was like popcorn! They all came at once! Now he is 10 and has only lost 6 or 7 teeth. It's the same idea. Baby teeth were slow coming in, so the permenant teeth will be, too. It will all be fine! Listen to the Pediatrician!

My daughter didn't get her first tooth until after she was a year old. She is now three and has a mouth full of teeth. I wouldn't worry about anything, they will come in when they are ready. It took my daughter several months to get more in after the first few and it never caused a problem with her.

Don't be concerned yet. My daughter was 14 mos before she got her first tooth. We went to the dentist and he said not to worry and that he believed they would all come in in the next 6 mos. And guess what? They did. They came in fast and furious.
