My Friend Is Dialating Before Having Contractions

It's pretty normal. I was 3 cm dilated before I had contractions. It's just your body getting ready. Hopefully it means she won't have a really long labor. Good luck to her!

you did not mention if this is your friend's first baby or if she has had previous pregnancy and deliveries.It is not unusal to be 1 cm dilated well before due date if she has had a baby before and without any contraction.However there are lucky moms that start dilating without contractions even with first baby.......good luck to her.

I NEVER had a contraction during my second pregnancy. Of course I did have contractions BUT I NEVER felt any!!! I only went to the hospital because my water broke. They asked if I was having contractions I said no nothing they hooked me up to a monitor and I was having them every 3-4 minutes. I asked to use the restroom about an hour later the nurse said no let me check you first and I was crowning!!! They had to tell me when to push. Now just fyi I have had three children and with the first & third I felt it all. It can happen. Good luck to your friend.

I was dialated 2 cm for about 3 weeks before I gave birth.

I walked around 2cm dialated for 2-3 weeks. Perfectly normal and doesn't predict a thing -- I still had to be induced!

10 days before I was due, I was 1 cm dialated. Seven days later I had some bleeding, but nothing else. The next morning I was crampy and went into labor at 11pm that night. I delivered the next morning, two days early.

I was two centimeters dilated two months before my due date and delivered two days after my due date, so you can't really determine how long it will be before she delivers. She could go a week over her due date and still only be one centimeter dilated.

I was 4 cm for 3 weeks with my third. 3 weeks I hoped every day to have contractions. My family even took bets. Tell your friend good luck, there is no telling when.
