pain. He is very careful walking on our wood floors and more relaxed on carpet. Our vet can't see him for two days. Their Xray machine is broken! Should I find a new vet?

What can I do next?

We took our poodle in twice before she turned 9 months old for "limping" that had no obvious cause. She didn't seem to be in pain or anything. Both times, we took her to the vet and both times told the same thing: "she pulled something playing - this is very common in puppies, especially poodles." Both times they sent me home with a mild pain killer (which was more for me than my puppy). I will say that my poodle has a very high pain tolerance and doesn't cry or whimper when she is in pain.

If the limping is the ONLY symptom, I think I would be ok waiting. In fact, I think I would give it 48 hrs before going in anyways and instead of an xray, just ask for an evaluation.

Our poodle is now just over a year old and we love her to death!!!!!

See if your vet has a cooperative arrangement with another practice - or will arrange one. I would think, if they had one, they'd have told you, but DO suggest it. Also find out if there's a vet hospital near you. Other things can cause a limp, including Lyme disease and some damage to the paw. The fact that it's worse on a hard surface is an important clue.

Meantime, if your vet hasn't examined the dog (broken x-ray machine or not), then yes, I'd find a new vet that is more responsible and willing to at least look at the animal. It's crazy to wait 2 days for an x-ray as if that's the only assessment tool the vet has.

W.,

Welcome to mamapedia!

You don't have to find a new vet - you need to find one who can see your dog now and has an operating X-Ray machine. It's really simple. Call around and tell them what you need and see when they can see your dog.

Good luck!

I personally would.

Doesn't have to be a broken bone to cause a limp. Could be a splinter, etc.

Can you touch his leg without him yelping or in obvious pain? My dog jumped off the bed last month and landed awkwardly. We didn't take her to the vet right away because she let us touch the leg and didn't seem to be in a lot of pain. She limped for about 3 days. Shes been fine since though.
