Music Theory Books for Kids

Any recommendations for music theory workbooks for kids? My daughters are 9 and have been playing violin and viola for about 4 years. They play well but we need to earnestly tackle better note name recognition (1st-3rd position at least), key signature concepts, etc. Any ideas? I need both treble and alto clef and hopefully something that is not super dry. :)

I appreciate any suggestions or successes you have had with books. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Instructor told us to look around online as she would like us (the parents) to work with them on it so she can concentrate on technique during their lessons. The lessons are expensive and she is fabulous so I would prefer to take this on myself. I can certainly ask her for specific ideas but thought since I will be doing the teaching (I do have some musical experience) I would check with other parents who might have recommendations, that's all. Thank you!

Have you looked at Groth Music in Bloomington? They might be able to suggest some theory options.

There are so many options in the U.S. easily found at any music store that sells sheet music. Do you have a keyboard at home? As most theory books use the keyboard to build upon.

I recommend you Google on-line theory options, kid friendly. There are tons of music program that include ear training, note recognition, Solfege, harmony, rhytym, etc.

For notes, our teacher likes us doing note flash cards with the kids. We made our own, but you can buy them online too. For key signatures, there are some you tube videos that teach some key signature tricks. I'm not sure about books, but there must be some workbooks that would not too too young for them.

What does their instructor suggest? That would be my first step.

I would ask their music teacher, and also go into your local music shop and ask them.

Have you asked their string teacher/s? I'd think it would be important to get a book which fits his/her approach, and they must know of some books which they like.
