I have had my Mirena for over a year now and have never been able to feel my strings. My husband has never felt them which the Doctor said he might.

I know it is still there (and I have had my ob/gyn confirm it). I hope my little story puts you at ease. GL to you.

i have had my mirena in for the last year, when i first got it i looked for the strings also but still no luck it is in the cervix so you wont feel them, the doctor cuts it long enough for him to be able to reach them to take it out if needed. Your periods are irregular and very light for about 6 months now i have one and have all the symtoms but nothing flows. I love it and recomemend it to everyone!!

Hey M.,
Your uterus usually sits lower during your period. That will make it easier to feel the strings. They feel like fishing line and are usually very short. I was required to have a 6 week recheck with my Dr. after I got mine, so he could check for the strings. If that isn't required by your Dr. you could always request a visit if you can't find them yourself. Don't stress about it. When you know what you are looking for it becomes much easier.

I had one put in about two years ago myself. I tried several times to find the string my husband tried also. I went back to the doctor two months later and it was still in place perfect. My doctor says alot of women have this worry. What happens is when it is put in place alot of times it curls up so that you cant reach it. I went back for my yearly in March and after two years it is still perfectly in place. I know what you mean to worry about it!!

i've had the same problem in the past with mine. my cervix is set back really far and i can't reach it, so my husband checks mine for me. the strings will often curve backalong the sides of your cervix. if your hubs can't find your cervix/the strings then go in for a visit with your ob and she can teach you how to find them and check for any possible problems.

I have had Murina for over a year now, and love it!! When it was first inserted, I was concerned about not being able to find the strings too, since my doctor told me that I would be able to feel them. When I went for a check up, my OB/GYN found the strings and said that it was nestled up in my cervix so I would not be able to feel them. He said sometimes that happens after it settles a bit.

Maybe that is what has happened with you, but you might schedule an appointment with your doctor that inserted it just to make sure.

Call the nurse and ask what to do from the office where this was on on May 1. They may strongly recommend coming in to their office for an exam. I wouldn't wait to make the call.

I had the mirena iud put in early May as well. I never could feel the string. When I went for my 6 week check-up, the doctor could not find the string either. They scheduled me for an ultrasound. I was nervous, but the ultrasound tech found the mirena exactly in the place it should be, just the strings wrapped around my cervis somehow. The doctor says it will definitely keep me from getting pregnant, but I will have to probably have a DNC to get it out instead of someone just pulling the string out. Grr! Anyway, some women just don't know what to feel for. Wait till you have your check-up and let the doctor decide. Good luck!

M., are you just trying to check the strings to make sure the thing is in place? I used to worry about that at first, but now I don't give it a second thought. I have had a Mirena IUD for about 4 years. It's terrific, and I only have a couple of drops for a period each month. I love it and next year, when this one "runs out," I plan to get another one...Good luck!

I also have a Murina. I have never been able to find the strings. Upon visiting my doctor, I found that the strings had been cut too short and I would need to have an out patient procedure to have the device removed. I have opted to keep the IUD until I am ready to go through the procedure, but will be doing it soon. I would advise you to visit your doctor.

I had mine put in last December, I have only been able to feel mine once. I actually just tried to check it yeterday and couldnt feel it. But from what I have heard from other people who have had it dislodged is that there was alot of bleeding. You should be scheduled for a check-up one month after having it inserted, so I would ask your doctor if there are any other signs to look for if it does become dislodged. And if you dont mind let me know what he sais , because I am a little worried about mine as well. Unfortunately I cant go to a doctor right now because I am in the process of getting new insurance and it isnt in place as of yet.

I'm just wondering why are you trying to find the strings? I've had the Marena for over a year and have no idea why you want to find them they are supposed to be out of sight (so I thought)Let me know if I need to be looking for mine.
