I asked my pediatrician and he said not to give the kids vitamins. Too often we rely on vitamins for proper nutrition. But eating healthy is something they should learn as soon as possible. Vitamins are NOT a replacement for eating healthy foods.

I give my 2 year old daughter the over the counter My First Flintstone vitamins. Its recommended for 2 and 3 year olds. I give them because they are easier then the drops (which she just spits back out) plus she thinks they are a candy and enjoys picking out which color vitamin she wants that day.

Both my 3.5-year-old and my 23-month-old take a vitamin every day. The vitamins were prescribed by their pediatrician primarily because they contain fluoride (our water is not fluoridated). In addition, since my kids are not always great eaters, we can be assured that they are still receiving all their nutritional requirements. Plus, they love them! Every night after we brush their teeth they love to choose which color vitamin they will eat :)

I have been giving my kids a multi vitamin since they were about 2. Before that I gave them a liquid vitamin with iron. I started it because my son wouldn't eat fruit or veg. But I can't give him one without my daughter wanting one. The doctor said it is fine to give them vitamins.

Now they have beginners Flintstone vitamins that 2 year olds can have everyday rather than every other day. I give them Flintstones (pediatrician's choice) or Centrum that has all of the Nick cartoons. I hope this helps.

Hi S.,

I just began giving my 2 year old vitamins that were prescribed by her pediatrician. She really liked them, but we noticed within a month that her sleeping schedule all of a sudden changed dramatically. She would NEVER go to bed until the middle of the night, sometimes dawn! It was killing us. We didn't even realize it might be the vitamins until a friend told me that happens sometimes in children. We took her off, and now she sleeps like a dream again. This will of course vary from kid to kid, so I'm certainly not trying to scare you off of giving vitamins - that was just my experience.

Talk to her doctor, if you trust them a lot, and see what is recommended. As long as a healthy diet is part of her life, vitamins might not be necessary. But advice from other moms might teach us both differently! I'll certainly be reading up on other responses to see if I learn anything new too. Good luck! (I'm sorry, I don't know the name of the vitamin that we were giving my daughter.)

My son takes PolyVitamin drops (prescribed) ever since I stopped breatfeeding. It is a muiltvitamin with a small amount of floride in it. His Dr. says he will be on it as long as I live in Methuen b/c they don't have floride in the water. I believe as he gets older he could have an over the counter vitamin and the chewable floride from the dentist but right now he is too young and the drops are more appropriate.

I occasionally give my daughter Arbonne children's vitamins. They are a gret vitamin and it is very affordable, especially for the toddlers; $10.50 lasts two months if taken every day. But I highly recommend brushing teeth afterwards, because of the amount of sugar in vitamins, especially flinstones! And perhaps taking them earlier in the day than bedtime! My daughter loves her vitamins, and I take the teens ones because they clear up my pms breakouts! Check out my website if you want to learn more, www.littlekris.myarbonne.com!

Hello, one of my sons is 2.5 years old. I do give him a daily vitamin every morning with his breakfast. I bought the children's chewable multivitamin with extra Vitamin C. He is a picky eater and is not a big fan of veggies. I have also given him instant breakfast in his milk and V8 fruit blend instead of juice once a day. I have always grown up taking vitamins so I wanted my son to get used to taking them also. I will do the same with my younger son. I also gave my older son a liquid form of a multivitamin with he was an older baby. I think Enfamil makes a brand. Hope that helps.

My toddler takes half of the children's chewable over the counter vitamin. My oldest is 9, so it is a lot easier now that I only have to buy one bottle of vitamins, now!

Yes. My son has a nutritionist that has recommended it, but it is my understanding that all toddlers need a vitamin. We give him 1/2 of a regular flintstone daily. It is my understanding that the "my first flintstone" are not usually recommended. He is 2 1/2.

Hi S.-
I have been giving my son First Flinstones since he turned 2. They are in a yellow box and are specifically made for 2 and 3 year olds. You give him/her one vitamin a day. You could also use the original Flinstones vitamins and give half a vitamin. I also use the gummy vitamins. You need to look on the bottles for directions. Some say one vitamin for a 2 or 3 year old and some say 2 vitamins. I just compare the amount of vitamins in them and get the ones that seem the best to me.
