Mother's Day Plans

I'm a new mom, and I want to do something fun this year for mother's day. I would like to know what you all do. We usually get together at my Aunt's house, which is fun, but this year they want to go out to eat. I'm ok with that, but my mom doesn't want to go to the restaurant that they chose. So, now I feel like it's up to me to think of something fun for us to do. It will be me, my mom, my husband and my baby. I just hate that there are no plans and it's in a couple of days. I should also say that I'm pregnant, and can't walk around too much. Please help with some fun ideas! :)

What can I do next?

Well C., we have thought about just making it simple this year ourselves. Usually we have this big spread inside, and so much to do afterwards. This year we are just putting some steaks on the grill/along w/baked potatoes & a toss salad. Afterwards I have this game we shall play. It's called MOM's BINGO. They are printables on the internet. Or you could all go rent a new release and watch a family movie together. Good-Luck & Happy Mother's Day to you.!

I didn't want to go out on Mother's day due to the crazy crowds that day. My husband and son are doing stuff for me on Saturday and then I am having my mom over on Sunday for lunch. I wanted to do something special for her since she is my mom but I didn't want to do much work since I am a mom too! I decided to put some ribs in the crock pot on Saturday night and some sweet potatoes in the oven on Sunday morning. That way lunch will basically make itself and we can just enjoy some relaxed time together but eat something really yummy and I can give her the gift I have for her. So that is what we are doing, hope you guys come up with something awesome! Sometimes a relaxed day in can be just the thing:)

I'm thinking it's your husband's job to come up with something now that you're a mom, but I don't know your situation. I love to cook and entertain but Mother's Day is the one day I'm glad to let my husband, sons, son-in-law do the planning, grilling, preparing.

We have a pool to enjoy but I also like to play board games or watch classic movies whenever I get a chance. If you need to, ask your mom what would be considered fun for her. She may just want to relax and not do much of anything. Many of us women rarely do that.

La Madeleine Restaurant makes picnic boxes to go, so order a few of those, and go to a park for lunch. Rent the movie "Marley & Me" to watch while the baby is napping. Also tonight, at Zilker Park at 7:00 p.m. there is a free concert for moms by the Austin Symphony. You could take your picnic boxes and a blanket there, instead of going out for lunch.

Skip eating out... The lines are always hellatious on M day. Instead, order take out from mom's fave restaurant complete w/ dessert. Spend the day flipping through pictures and watching home movies... Perfect opportunity to take the time to do that...

I hope you read this before tomorrow. Since you have not been to a restaurant on Mothers Day - please be advised... DONT on mother's day - all restaurants are PACKED - unless you arrive the moment they open their doors - either at 10:30 or 11am. With a baby - you will just be waiting forever and it most likely will be an exercise in misery. After having such mother's day fiasco many years ago when my kids were young, we finally left the restaurant without eating. for years after that we would call in an order to our favorite Mexican reastaurant and do take-out. Then my kids would rent my favorite movie and we would have a picnic on the living room floor eating our favoorite take-out and watching my favorite movie.
Now, I go to Kemah and dont mind waiting over an hour for my favorite table outside on the water because my kids are old enough now to enjoy margaritas with me while we wait! haha
One year we went to a park and invited all our friends with small kids. Since at the park there are no space restrictions, the husbands grilled while we moms sat around and visisted. the kids loved it and it was a blast too.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!

Hi C.-

I think you and your mom should do a "spa day" together (manicures, pedicures, etc) and ask your husband to plan dinner for you when you return from your day out. He can cook or order in but make it something that you and your mom don't have to work on.

Good luck,
K.
