I need some good ideas for a Mother's Day craft. The children who are usually there age from seven to ten, but we have the occasional four or twelve year old. (It's a children's choir at a church.) Any ideas for a craft that's simple (I'm craft challenged) but fun and relatively inexpensive? Oh, we need to be able to complete it in 30-40 minutes at the most. It's okay if it takes less time, but that's all we can afford to use on it. Thanks ladies, I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas!

What can I do next?

Plant some flowers in pots or decorate some pots to put plants in. You can buy those terra cotta ones and they are not too expensive.

- Fill a jar with water, oil and a little food coloring to make your own personal ocean - personalize it for mom.

- Make a special coupon book for mom - one free hug, one free kiss, one free floor mop, clean my room twice for free, date night with mom, etc.

- Use a plastic jar to pack away a time capsule. Put in a picture of yourself, a piece of string as long as you are tall, a tracing of your hand and a list of all your favorite things. Be sure to label the lid with the date. Put it away for a year or two. Then open it and see just how much you have changed. You can also add in something sweet to say to mom, then add a new one each year. This could be a gift the kids could give mom when they are teens.

- Build a cardboard skyscrapper
Start by collecting cardboard boxes in various sizes. Tape the boxes shut with packing tape, then stack and tape them atop each other. Using markers or crayons, your kids can decorate the boxes with windows, columns, gargoyles, mailboxes and so on. They might also add some 3-D touches, such as tissue paper flowers and bushes, construction paper flags or even some plastic figurines.

- Craft stores such as Michaels or Hobby Lobby have craft kits that my both my son and daughter really enjoy. Even Wal Mart has some as well.

- I found a lot of ideas on the internet - just google craft ideas for the age range you are interested in!

Take head shots of the kids. Print the head shots ( linen paper would be nice but bond should work too). Use rich colored pencils (prisma brand works best but can be pricey, however you can get them relatively cheap on ebay). or use pastel crayons to color part of the picture.

Example...color the hair blue..shirt orange...lips pink...

It has this andy warhol effect. You can the put them of cheap frames. Looks great on black frames. Ikea has them cheap.

If you have access to an oven... how about shrinky dink key chains or book marks?

heart-shaped piece of paper, stamp pads .....& have the kids fingerprint all over the heart....which has printed on it: "my fingerprints are all over your heart". Mount the decorated heart onto a frameable piece of paper.
***the older kids can be encouraged to shape their fingerprints into flowers, balloons, etc.

Buy a tube of lipstick. Cut off a piece for each child, place it on a paper plate. Let the child put on the lipstick & kiss a piece of paper. The paper should be large enough for Mom to attach a photo from home. The paper should also have the phrase: "this kiss is for you, Mom!" on it. Cuter than cute!

Cupcake liners, both regular & mini. Glue them together so they look like a daffodil. Attach to a green pipe cleaner/chenille stem. Attach green paper leaves to the stem. Makes a nice bouquet of flowers!

Lots more ideas....all you have to do is google it!

A friend sent me a very easy bookmark... she said her grandkids made them one time for a M. present... would be good for Mother's day..

Just take some fine cord or ribbon, tie a knot at one end, string on a large bead or stone/shell with a hole in it (you can buy assortments at craft stores), tie a knot above that one.... they can put several items at each end... make sure they leave enough space in the middle (about 8" or so?) to go in the pages of the book.
