Most for Your Money from Consignment Stores?

Hello everyone, hoping you can help me out on this one. My infant is growing like a weed and I've got a closet full of clothes he can't wear and need winter clothes. Since these stores advertise a larger discount for trades I thought I'd give it a shot. This will be my first selling experience w/ a consignment store and wanting your feedback on a percentage that I can expect. Are any better than others and which ones do you think have a better selection? I have tried calling several yet they do not want to quote anything over the phone. I live in Frisco but do not mind driving to plano, allen or mckinnney. I do appreciate your help!

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies for your help and if Wylie wasn't so far away I would stop by. I did not know there was a difference between resale and consigment and didn't realize how low the percentage was either..yikes. so glad I asked before going to the store. It sounds like the smartest thing for me is to hold on to everything until the next consignment sale comes around. Thanks again for your help!

I was talking to someone recently and she had all name brand clothes, no stains, and everything was ironed and she was very disappointed with what one of the shops offered her.

If you can, wait until spring and check out some of the consignment sales. I have put things in the Divine Consign sales and have done really well. They have sales in the spring and in the fall. You name the price and you earn 70%. Just pay close attention to their suggestions for pricing or you won't sell anything.

Hi A.,

I made the most by selling the clothes on craigslist and in my garage sale. Consignment and thrift shops gave way too little and I found it almost like an insult.

Good Luck!

Consignment stores and resale stores like Kid 2 kid and Once upon a child are two diff. store.
I own a Consignment store in Wylie and I do a 50/50 split.
a resale store buys your clothes out right and only gives you about 9-15% of what they think that they can sell it for. Consignment you have to wait until it sales to get your money, but it is alot more money. So if you want to make more money come to Wylie and see us.

I dealt once with a consignment shop and decided it wasn't really worth it. It was the Kid to Kid in McKinney, so probably all of the Kid to Kids are the same. They don't really give you much and are very selective with what they'll take. So I wound up only selling a few outfits to them for not much money and bringing everything back home. I even thought to use them to re-sell a bassinet, but they gave me next to nothing so I said forget it! Since then, I've just decided to either donate to charitible organizations and write it off on my taxes, or just give it away through the McKinney Freecycle group, www.freecycle.org.
