What theme are you going with? I have an online party favor business, www.favoroo.com, and I can make custom favors, too. So, if you have a certain theme in mind, I can brainstorm on some favors. :)

A friend of mine does GREAT invitations for great prices: www.craftylilmomma.com. She just finished these AWESOME "Breakfast at Tiffany's" Bridal Shower invites that I am IN LOVE with. lol (You can see these on her MySpace pics page at: www.myspace.com/craftylilmomma.)

As far as DJs go, I know someone who is a DJ, but I don't know what he charges. Decorations are so much fun!

I'm looking forward to seeing what your theme is.

(I'll edit my response afterward to reflect it, since we can't reply twice. :D )

a friend of mine threw her husband a party and the party favors were all his favorite things from childhood like sidewalk chalk, candy, etc. Party City usually has great decorations and you could make the invitations on your computer. Good luck.

We did a 50th birthday party celebration with personalized wine bottles for a friend. We put a baby picture of him on the bottle and a message underneath that said "Happy 50th Birthday, Jimmy!"

We ordered a case of these and had one for each table. It was a lot of fun!

Another great idea is a double magnum of wine, its like 4 bottles of wine in one hue bottle. It comes with a pen that guests can write a message to the birthday honoree. Then, the bottle becomes the gift!

You can check these ideas out at www.FineWinesAtHome.com

Let me know if you have any questions!

Have fun with the birthday party!!!

Cheers!
S.

I like Khristina's idea. Maybe each table setting be a different era. One table decorated in the year he was born with information (gas prices, gallon milk, etc.), next table from the 60's, next 70's, etc. It will be research on your part, but free! I think crazyfads.com will have ideas that were popular in each decade.

Orientaltrading.com is a great place to order stuff from and its not that expensive and the shipping is reasonable as well. As for a DJ you might want to consider making a mixed CD that will play continously... Have all his fovorites on it.. etc..

I'm working on my husband's surprise 50th party too!!! Exciting. Great that you have the place and cake. I have lots of ideas and the place, and some friends of mine are catering it, but I REALLY NEED an EXCEPTIONAL cake so if you could share with me, I'd appreciate it forever.
Just a note on the DJ: what we're doing (and a lot of people do these days) is just download stuff onto your ipod (or zen, or mp3) and then play it that way. i got a zen for my birthday and it came with either 50 or 100 free downloads. If you have songs on CDs that you already own, you can upload them onto the computer and transfer them to your player that way for free. Then you can arrange an order or just put it on shuffle. Just a thought.
One thing I'm doing for my husband's surprise gift is making a DVD of people's messages to him from other countries and states that won't be able to attend the party. I "stole" his address book and asked them to record short birthday messages to him (some haven't seen him in 20 years!) and then either email them or if they have to, mail them to me. I'll take it somewhere and have it edited together onto one DVD when it's all here.
For your party favors: what kind of party is it? How formal, etc.
