I had my tubes tied in 2003 after the birth of my twins. My period has always been early. I am now 5 days late, and really don't want to "waste" the money on a preg. test. Anyone gotten preggo after a BTL? thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay, I took the test-I just hated to spend 12.00 on test to tell me what was remotely possible, and probably not. I didn't know dollar tree sold them so cheap, could've saved a lot! Anyway, test was negative. I'm going to get my thyroid checked, so I'll see what that says. thanks for the advice...

They have effective ones at the dollar store. You can try those that way it will not cost a lot. Getting pregnant after a tubal can happen but it is rare.

Umm... hopefully when you got them tied they explained that there was still a slight chance that you could get pregnant. It depends upon the way they did your operation but none-the-less there is always a chance. I would get the pregnancy test just in case. How could it be a waste of money??? Atleast you would know and wouldn't be in a constant state of worry

If you have Dollar Tree stores near you, they usually have preg tests for a buck, and they're one of the most sensitive, too.

Hope everything works out the way you want!

Edit: sorry, I posted before I saw that you already tested. Arrgh!

Dear J.,
When I had my first son, I went through a 52 hour labor period, in which I suffered a great deal, almost losing the baby. Turns out he was big turned wrong and the doctor did not know what to do about it. He was a (QUACK). Anyway they sent me in an ambulance to another county hospital and he was born in ten minutes. The quack doctor blamed in on my not being built to have children... hmmmm. Seems I had all the right parts... lol.
Anyway I went back to the same doctor, the gyn,
who actually delivered my first baby, four years later when I became pregnant with my second son. He and I together decided to tie my tubes after Brad was born. My mother in law, when she had finally nagged us enough about not having anymore kids and we finally told her our plans about a month before the baby was born, says "well that won't work, in seven years they'll grow back and you will be pregnant again." So frustrated about this I asked my doctor during my next exam. He pulled out a model of the female anatomy, lol, and took his pen from his pocket as a pointing device. He located the tube we were speaking of and pointed it out to me. He says, " I am cutting out a section here, (pointing,) and over here," (pointing again, indicating both ends of the tube.) Then he showed me the distance between the two ends of the tube. He says, " there is no way it can jump the bridge and get to the other side." He added, " so tell your ML to butt out." That was 28 years ago in July.
Anyway, I added my story to say this: Some doctors just tie the tubes off and yes after so long a time, according to what my doctor told me, they can grow back. BUT when they are "Cut and Tied" or "burned" he called it, then there is no way for this to happen.
I hope my little short story has helped you. lol
Good luck and God bless,
R.

I wouldn't see it as a waste, more like piece of mind. I'd play the "wait and see" game for another week or two before getting a test. Then if still nothing, make a trip to the drug store, it'd be well worth it. Chances are slim your are pregnant, but tl's have been known to reverse themselves. If the test comes out negative, and you still don't get your period, it may be time to visit your Ob/Gyn to make sure it's not something more serious. Good luck!

you aren't pregnant. It doesn't work that way. they cut the tube and make it shorter then tie it off and cauterize it. don't waste your money on a preg test. your body is adjusting to something and sometimes nerves can cause a delay of your period.... chemical change can cause it, lots of things can cause it. RELAX!!!!!!!

Dollar Tree sells them for a dollar. Just as effective as the expensive brands. See www.peeonastick.com for comparisons.

It's worth a dollar to find out.

i would take a test jsut to be sure. if it comes back positive you need to see your ob/gyn asap. if you are experiencing an ectopic(tubal) pregnancy, it needs to be taken care of. it can cause the tube to rupture and cause lots of problems. or it is possible( not probable) that an egg was able to make it's way past and get fertilized and you are really pregnant again. just see your doc to be on the safe side.

I know nothing about having tubes tied (other than the RARE stories about women getting pregnant still after having it done.) However, I do know that they sell pregnancy tests at The Dollar Store and Dollar General. They are worth the buck to me just to ease my mind. I am on birth control but have those feelings too every once in a while.

Wow ... you can "hold out" a lot better than I could. I would have been taking a test (even though it would be just wasting money) the day I was late! ;)

I do not have my tubes tied, but have known several people (through friends, etc.) that have gotten preggers and had another child after both having their tubes tied or their hubbies having a vasectomy.

I would go ahead and spring for the pregnancy test ... just to ease your mind! Keep us posted!

Hi J.,
I have hear of them coming untied, most have them burned then tied. I'm no medical expert, so take a test, if it's not
postive, make a DR. appointment for fine out what is wrong.
It's better to play safe than be sorry later. There are a lot of reason you could be late. So be safe and see a DR.

Anything is possible; I've even heard of tubes growing back after being tied off. I've had my tubes tied so I hope it's not common. Take the test!!!! Even if your not pg, you may need to see your doc; it could be something else. After my two kids, I had all sorts of issues w/ my periods and finally had an ablation (Novisure) in Nov.
Good Luck!!!

I have never dealt personally, but I had a patient once who was preggo 10 years after her tubal! So it is obviously possible, even if rare. Maybe instead of "wasting" money on the preg. test, wait it out another week and see if your period shows. If not, then the test would not be a waste. Good luck!

I would wait a bit. But, if it is still a worry in a week or two, go ahead and find out. The worst thing to have would be a tubal pregnancy. >.<

It is very unlikely that you are pregnant. After I had my tubes tied, everything changed about my cycles. They became very irregular, as well as long and rough. If you don't have any other signs, I am guessing not! Also, I started skipping periods. I would give it another week and if yo don't start, call the Dr. Good luck!

Dollar general store has preg tests for $1. You can get pregnant after a tubal, they are not 100% effective. Pretty close, but working as a Labor & Delivery nurse, I've seen it first hand. Get a test.

I have not gotten preg. since mine but my boss did. It can happen. If you will go to your local dollar store they sell the test now for a dollar. And I can hear most people they probably won't work but that is the same test I took with my last two children. Good luck!!

I agree, too, that it is well worth a buck to find out. Keep in mind, however, that one's period can be late for any number of reasons. I know that being a stay at home mom of three, two of whom are twins, is wonderful but I'm sure stressful at times. It's not like you can take a break from being a mom just any time you feel like it.
If you do take a test, and you are not pregnant, but still do not have a period after a week or two, perhaps you should consider going to your GYN just to be checked. The greatest likelihood, however, is that everyday stress is at the root.
Good luck!
