I will share my first thought with you. I believe you are pregnant and wondered instantly what kind of awesome contribution this baby will make to the world since it was conceived against all odds. Must have wanted to be here and to be with you very badly.

Wow, sounds like you are preggo! I don't think it's really possible to get false positives like that on a pregnancy test. Good luck!

You certainly have a lot of good advice here! I agree with most of the posters that first, go NOW to the doctor and make sure it's a pregnancy, and that it's not ectopic.

Then, depending on who you are, what you believe, and what you can handle, decide if you will abort, carry the baby to term and place for adoption, or have your sixth child. I don't believe "things happen for a reason." I think "sh-t happens," and you just have to deal with it, one way or the other. The issue is whether you can deal with a sixth child.

And finally, yes, it's time for your husband to have a vasectomy!

Congrats on #6!

I worked for a gynecologist who's 2nd daughter was the product of a post-tubal procedure!! Just get checked out to make sure the baby is in the right place and congrats.

I love when babies overcome the odds and show up, it enforces that every person has a purpose on this earth! (Celine Dion was #10 or 12 and her mother almost aborted, oh how different things turned out!!)

Your post did freak me out because I had a tubal 1 1/2 years ago and am late on my cycle! :-) I may be the next to post for encouragement!

Take care!

Yep, very possible!!! I know someone who's son was born last summer and she'd had her tubes tied. Unfortunately, nothing is ever 100%.... (here's to hoping our vasectomy holds!!) Good luck to you in your journey!

All I know is when I had my tubes tied the Dr. said "I have to let you know that about one in every 299 women who have this procedure come back pregnant later". So, if you are, and it sounds like a good possibility that you are, consider yourself a one in 299 statistic. Be happy, because there must be a good reason for you to have another child with that type of odds against it.

It's very rare but it has been known to happen. Also after a vasectomy.

I'd go to your doctor right away though because the chance of an ectopic (in the tubes) pregnancy is greater than if you hadn't had them tied.

I can't remember off the top of my head if there are other conditions that can cause a positive pregnancy test and the symptoms, but seeing your doctor will be a good place to find out.

Once you know for sure what's going on then you can look at all your options and figure out what's best for you and your family.

Good luck.

Edited to add: It probably wasn't a "botched" job by the doctor. The tubes can sometimes grow back together on their own, even as far as 10 years down the line after having a tubal. It's not anything the doctor did "wrong" or "messed up" ... it's just one of those rare things that happens.

Hi L., It certainly sounds like you are pregnant. People get pregnant under some unlikely circs but this sure takes the cake. My last pregnancy was from a broken condom which i followed up immediately with a full course of morning after pills. I felt odd and had pregnancy symptoms which i kept attributing to the hormonal shifts from the pills. It took me a month to really figure it out and take a test. The doctor I saw said she had read about this happening but did not really believe it was possible! Another baby was not an option for me or my other children at that time and I terminated the pregnancy. I send good wishes to you as you figure out your best option.

My freind had her tube ends cotterized and then had the tubes tied to make SURE she would not get pregnant again.

God had something different in store for her. She DID get pregnant again.

Rejoice in your miracle baby! God has a wonderful plan for the baby's life (and yours).

Blessings,
Gail

My husband's little sister is the product of a botched tubal litigation, so it can happen. Pregnancy tests are unlikely to give you a false positive. You should go to your doctor asap to confirm, but looks like something went wrong with your tubal. Good luck to you, this is a shock now, but my be your little blessing in disguise.

Oh Honey! It is indeed possible! Please tell me that you didn't have them cut, burnt shut and a portion taken out too...cause that what I had done a couple of years ago. We have four kids. Well, the fact that you have five already tells me that you have a love for children, so don't worry too much. Six is only one more than five. It's not that big of a jump...seriously!!! Remember number three...how much chaos that caused? But when four and five came along...it wasn't such a big deal, right? No worries...you've got this stuff down...and you're young enough to handle it! Hopefully you'll have another girl! ;-) We have a three boys:16, 9 and 2 and one girl who is 13. It's so much easier having a little one when your older kids are in their double digits. You'll have plenty of help this time! God bless you and Congratulations!!!

First off Congratulations! I am sorry to tell you this but my husbands aunt had her second son after having her tubes tied for about 10 years. Have heard of it in other people to. The old adage of abstinence is the best form of birth control still holds true. My aunt had an IUD and got pregnant as also a friend of mine. Just remember there is a reason for everything and if you are pregnant this child is a blessing. Good Luck!

It took me a year to get pregnant so I ended up taking A LOT of those home preggo tests. Sometimes I would think, "oh these don't work for me" or "I'm too early for it to be detected" - but the nurse at the OB's office was always very insistent that those tests are extremely accurate. Well, after a year of taking them - let me tell you, they are really accurate. If you see any second line within the 5 to 10 minutes after peeing on it - you're most likely pregnant. I can't speak to different brands. I always used the First Response Early Result tests. Those are very reliable. And sure enough when I finally was pregnant - the 2 lines showed up by 14 days past ovulation (they may have shown up even earlier, but I didn't test earlier.) They also showed when I had a chemical pregnancy a number of months earlier - what happened there is that the second line got lighter each day until there was no more second line. But when I had a viable pregnancy, the second line stayed about the same darkness give or take a little over a 3 day period.

If you haven't had a period for 2 months and you got 2 lines - you could be as far along as 8 weeks pregnant. I would get to the DR immediately take folic acid, stop drinking alcohol, etc. Don't know if this is what you want to hear. But at least you have options. I just found out that a friend did an "open" adoption when she was 22 years old and that worked out wonderfully for her. If you can't handle another child - you do have a lot of options.

Hi L.-
Holy Moly!
Ok, don't panic. Go see your doctor to have it 100% confirmed. Also, maybe your husband should have a vasectomy?!?!?
If you are pregnant, it is, perhaps, another blessing in disguise.
Wishing you the best

don't do anything, except drive yourself immediately to the hospital, and get yourself an internal exam complete with ultrasound/sonogram!!! aside from all the normal pregnancy possibilities, while i gather are definitely unwanted, and who could blame you, 5 is truly a handful, there is a very real and dangerous possibility of a tubal pregnancy, in which case immediate surgery may be called for. tubal pregnancies can be very serious and life threatening. your children need you well and getting this taken care of asap if it is in fact a tubal pregnancy, can greatly determine how in depth a surgery you would require, and how soon you'll mend!!! i hope for your heatlth and sanities sake it is just some freak hormone occurance, as i'm sure you do too, and nothing comes of it!!!
good luck,
aline

L., yes, it is possible. It happened to my sister in law. You should make an appt. with your OB as soon as possible as your risk for tubal pregnancy is higher when your tubes are tied. (that is what happened to my sister in law) My brother in law ended up having to have himself done as well after that happened so they would assure not to get preg. again. But the way that I feel about it is that if God wants you to have another child, you will. You must be a great Mom and family for God to entrust so many of his precious ones with you! Good Luck!

Well those tests are usually accurate, but you should get into the dr's asap and have them do a blood test...it *sounds* like you are preggo to me. Could be the dr who performed your procedure didn't do it right? Deep breath, remember everything happens for a reason. You are still young enough to be able to do it! Congrats? Good luck!
