My sister was murdered May 5, 2007. She was a "second" mom to my five year old son. He is still having a very hard time dealing with her death. Does anyone know of a children's therapist they would recommend. Or any other recommendations would greatly be appreciated.

I am so sorry that you are going through such a horrible ordeal. I've never dealt with this myself, but a close friend has. They had a therapist from CPS talk to their child. Her advice was mainly for the adults in his life. Children feel more comfortable opening up to the ones that they know and see on a daily basis. The worst thing to do is remove pictures of the deceased loved one or to avoid answering questions the child has. Don't be afraid to display pictures around the house, especially ones of your child with the departed one. Kids are amazing when it comes to the way they process situations in their minds. Be honest with your son and only answer the question he asks, don't go into long un-necessary details. Kids usually tune out when the answer becomes too long anyway. I would also go to Barnes & Noble and ask an employee to show you the children's books they have on this area. There are some wonderful books writen for both children and adults. I hope this helps....

I would definitely contact someone at The Parenting Center. Most consults and classes are free. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I am so very sorry about your sister. I cannot even imagine what you are all going through. I took my daughter to see a therapist named Joy Crabtree in Denton at the Cook Children's office. She is really good. Good luck and we will say prayers...L.
