Hi again,
I'm 36 and have 2 sons. My youngest is 19 months old and when he was born I had my tubes tied. I have missed my period for the month of Feb. I am about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks late. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests and they have come back negitive. I guess my question is why I'm missing my period. Has anyone else been through this or gotten pregnant with their tubes tied?? (I know there is slight chance it could happen)
Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi Bonnie - I'm 37 and my husband has been snipped. Last year I missed a period too, and took 2 pregnancy tests, both of which came back negative. However, I was worried because there is a (very slight) chance of getting pregnant after a man's vasectomy. I talked to my primary care doctor/GYN about it and she said it is normal to miss a period every now and then, especially as you get older. So if I miss another period this year, I won't be worried. And if your pregnancy tests were negative, I think that's a good sign that you're not pregnant.
Take care and all the best,
M. C.

Hi Bonnie,

I haven't had my tubes tied. My response is to the pregnancy tests you have taken. You may want to take it again if you did not use a cup. In the past, I have gotten a false negative. This can happen if you hold the stick in the stream too long, or if the stream is very heavy, too much is absorbed giving a false negative. I also know someone who had their tubes tied and got pregnant. I can certainly understand your concern.
Have you tried contacting your OB/GYN and asking your question? Sometimes, they will call you back with the answer versus making you come in for an appointment (saving you a copay).

Good Luck,

J. R.

I also started missing my periods at that age. Sorry to say that it is probably a sign of peri-menopause!

If your tubes were tied when your youngest was born 19 months ago then I would think you are just late. It happens sometimes.
don't worry too much but definately call you gyn and see if they'll give you a prescription to get you "started".

I know someone who had 2 babies after her tubes were tied so there is a possibility. But if you took 2 tests and they came back negative then you probably aren't pregnant. There are many reasons for missed periods it could be stress, weight gain or loss, traveling sometimes throws your cycle off. also if you spend a lot of time with other women a lot of times everyones period happens at the same time. and as we age our bodies change and cycles change. If you're really stressed about it go to the dr(you'll probably get your period on the way there but they'll do a test to confirm one way or another.
Are you feeling normal(healthy)?

Hi Bonnie,
could be stress, change in diet or exercise, could also be the start of premenopause, its not uncommon for changes to develop that way as we get older,if any other symptoms or really concerned check with your MD.

My first thought was early menopause. I am 32 and have already started dealing with the "joys" of this. A late or missed period is one indicator, but given the chance of a tubal pregnancy, I would call the Dr. to rule this out. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

Hi Bonnie,

I know that you don't want to hear this but my sister-in-law got pregnant with her 3rd child after her doctored performed a tubal ligation. It does happen but it is very rare.

There are other reasons that you might be late. You could possibly be entering early menopause. That doesn't mean that your periods will stop all together but that you may be very irregular for years. A call to your OB/GYN might be in order as well as perusing WEB MD for more information.

Good Luck,

A.

You NEED to have blood work done to see if you have a tubal pregnancy. This is important to do soon. Yes, it is possible to get pregnant. Have you been to the website tubal.org
http://tubal.org/symptoms_of_pts.htm

It is very informative and what to watch for.

Sometimes if you're going through a stressful time your periods come late, not at all, or early. If everything is normal in your life and you usually have a very regular period maybe you should call your OBGYN or midwife.
