Missed 2 Periods and Neg Pregnancy Test, Could It All Be from Switching Pills?

I'm not to sure what to think. I was on a 3 month pill where I would only get a period once every three months and it just wasn't working for me cause I would clot alot and spot (I was on it for about a year or longer). I called my ob and they told me to stop taking it and give myself a period then start the new (monthly) pills. Well when I never got a period they said take a test just to be sure and I did but it was neg. Well now I should of had another period when I was on the white pills in the pack but I didn't get anything at all again. I took a test during that week and it was neg again. I called the ob to see what they thought and she said to keep taking my pills and if I don't get a period next month they will switch my pills. I just never had any problem with my periods and am curious if anyone else had these issues. Any advise would put my mind at ease.

yes, it's probably from switching pills. You OB should have kept you OFF any form of pill for a few months till your periods were coming every month before putting you on anything else. Our bodies need time to adjust from one thing to another.

It sounds like you have confused your body with the changes these pills are creating. If it were me, I would stop taking the pills altogether and give my body a chance to regroup. Of course, that means using other means of protection, however that may be easier than what you are going through now. I have had issues with the pills and my doctor took me off everything to see if my system would regulate. It did, and I decided not to use any type of pills again. It just takes an effort to protect yourself when sexually active. You can actually have fun with other forms of contraception that wont alter your body chemistry so drastically.

Just some thoughts......

C.,

Try calling Dr. Kathleen Ravielle's office. I don't have the phone number off hand but she is in Stone Mountain. She is very familiar with some of the harmful side effects of the birth control pill and is willing to look more closely at your symptoms to determine possible causes.
I know I myself was a former birth control pill user. I didn't look into the fact that flooding my body with chemicals as anything other than normal at the time. I am sad to know also of the pill's abortificant qualities. There are better options out there for planning a family and living in God's will and plan for you.
Good luck and God Bless!

I watched on tv that you can still be pregnant with a negative test and you can get pregnant changeing pills so check with the doctor. They also showed two women who did the same thing you did and was pregnant so go to the doctor to be on the safe side.

You're totally normal. Don't be worried! (That's natural, of course... to be worried.) Switching pills can definitely be a part of the cause. Hormonal changes and such. I went through something similar, and now I only get a period about once a year, even though I'm on monthly pills. It's actually quite nice. =^)

I would advise you to go in and see your ob/gyn, just to make sure everything is in order. With me, my random spotting and clotting was due to a thin uterine lining. Any time I would exercise or engage in *frisky activity* (hee-hee!) I would spot... and sometimes clot. Ugh. It was nas-tay.

My ob/gyn put me on a bit of estrogen for a while, just to build the lining back up. No one wants to be on that for too long with all the risks associated, so once it was back to normal I came off... and then didn't have a period! For over a year! My ob/gyn checked me and said everything is normal, and that sometimes this. just. happens. No cause for concern. I've stayed current with my yearly exams, and all is fine. I usually get a period around September, but we're done having kiddos, so it's rather nice to not have to worry about it.

If you ARE wanting to have periods in the future (you may NOT be done having kiddos), my ob/gyn DID tell me that going off the pill altogether would bring my periods back. (No thank you!) I'm not saying this will happen with you, but if this is indeed a hormone thing, then it most likely will.

I hope I've been helpful! I know it can be stressful walking through this, not sure of what exactly is going on. But, if you've been checked out and everything is clear, I say enjoy it, sweetie!

The pill does not cause abortions. People who say that do not understand how they work.

It's very common to have mixed-up menses when switching around pills. In fact, the period you have while on the pill is not a true period. Your body bleeds because the estrogen and progesterone in the pill have been taken away- it is not the same process that your body would naturally go through. So there is no harm in skipping it.

The one thing you should be careful of is making sure you are continuously protected. If you are sexually active I would not stop taking pills to wait on a period- you may get pregnant in the meantime. Taking birth control pills on the very slight chance you are pregnant would not harm the baby.

Good luck getting this sorted out and keep yourself protected. Remember that it takes about 2 weeks to have a positive pregnancy test so if you think you had unprotected sex it will be two weeks before a pregnancy test would be positive.
