How Long Do I Wait to Go See a Doctor?

My last period was Nov 30, 2010. My period has not been consistant for the past 4 months since I started the Loestrin 24 Fe birth control pill ( which was when I stopped nursing my now 16 month old). Anyway, Starting Dec 8, 2010 I was starting on the iron pills in the pack, but I never started my period during that time. I told my husband that I was not on the pill because I was supposed to be having my period. He didn't care (he's ready to have another baby) so we did our thing anyway with no backup. Now it's Jan 9,2011 and it has been almost two weeks since I was supposed to have a period and nothing has happened. After I didn't started my period I also stopped taking the birth control. I have taken two pregnancy test both 5 days apart the last being taken 1 week after my period was supposed to start. Both test came back negative and I have had no signs of being pregnant. My question is how long should I give my period before I go see a doctor. I really thing my body was just messed up from the BC pill and needs to get a break before maybe switching pills. But how long should I wait before getting help?

What can I do next?

I would call on Monday and make an appointment within the next week or two. I think it's been long enough. If you are not pregnant, you need to know why you haven't gotten your period. If you are pregnant, you need to know that too. You can get false negatives (as well as false positives) with the home pregnancy tests.

Good luck!

Sounds like the first 3 months are how long the changes being made need to settle. If your period doesn't come back, then you might want to try Watson Labs - Zovia 1/35e-21.

Top 5 side effects experienced by people in long term use:

Zovia 1/35e-21 (Watson Labs)
1 Intestinal Haemorrhage
2 Irritable Bowel Syndrome
3 Inflammatory Bowel Disease
4 Colitis
5 Depression

Loestrin 24 Fe (Warner Chilcott)
1 Breast Cancer
2 Breast Cancer Female
3 Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke)
4 Headache
5 Depression

Here's from the Loestrin website:

Loestrin® 24 Fe is different from most birth control pills in that you take 24 active pills instead of 21. Because of the hormones in the 3 extra white, active pills of Loestrin® 24 Fe, your period may last fewer days, and your uterine lining may not build up as much, so there may be less menstrual flow. Loestrin® 24 Fe is clinically proven to shorten periods (averaging fewer than 3 days) and lighten periods (with less bleeding).

You may experience light bleeding or spotting between your monthly periods during the first 1 to 3 pill packs. However, do not stop taking your birth control pills – the light bleeding or spotting will usually go away. See your doctor if light bleeding or spotting continues after 3 months or if bleeding is persistent or prolonged.

If you took a test 1 week after you were suppose to start your period and it was negative, chances are you're not pregnant. It's most likely just your body adjusting to all the hormonal changes. If you don't want to get pregnant, then just start your pills today and continue as normal.

Well I would put yourself back on BC unless you are trying to get pregnant, I was a little confused by that part. If you're not trying to get pregnant I would just put yourself back on the pill and move on, no need to go to the doctor unless you're not feeling yourself or having some other side effects from your new pill. It takes your body a few months to get used to new BC and even if you aren't "on the pill" to get your period, you're still on the pill. There is enough medicine left in you to still protect you during your placebo week so even though you're getting a period you're not really able to get pregnant unless you stop taking the pill all together.

I have been on Loestrin 24 since I stopped breastfeeding my second child. We don't really want another child unless God has other plans, so this was the pill my OB suggested.
Anyway, I skip periods ALL THE TIME on this BC, which my OB is not concerned with at all given the type of BC I am on. I haven't had a period since August. So, if you want regular periods while on BC, I would suggest trying a different pill. Either way, go see your doctor.

If it's not too late, get a blood test done. My friend had 3 false-negatives without any reason why.
