Mirana Causing Pain

So I saw another mom with a question about Mirana and I hadn't even thought to ask before. I have had mirana for a little over a year now and starting a few months ago I was getting (and still am occasionally) these really bad pains like cramps right where my ovaries are. First they were just on the left side, and still are most of the time, but they do go to the right side every once in awhile. I have been to my doctor and done different tests and sonograms but they haven't come up with anything. I was wondering if anyone else who has Mirana ever came across this kind of problem and what you did for it. Any help is MUCH appreciated!

What can I do next?

I am not sure what Mirana is, but I have had endometrisous now for 10 years if not longer. I started off alot like the pains you are having now and it is very hard to find on MRIS and other xrays ultrasound type things. The first time I had it was so bad I would get up in the middle of the night and fold over in pain from it. The only way they new I had it was a surgery called Laposcropicy. I was told recently that I have it again, and Again I am doing the prociders that i did before the surgery. Last time i was birth control, the hormones, been in mentapose for hormones then surgery. If you are with in child bearing age you can get it. I have overian cancer run in my family so i have to be more careful....it might be something to look in to. I goes with all your symptoms.

Some CWC offices are using Mirenas and Paragards imported from other countries. This means they are not FDA approved. This puts patients at risk because coming from other countries, the product's identity, purity, source, handling, and storage cannot be verified. Using these overseas pharmacies can risk receiving unsafe and ineffective counterfeits, even if they appear the same. And the physician can save hundreds of dollars on the non-FDA approved product, but charges you and your insurance the same price as a US FDA-approved product. Please be careful and ask to see the box and insert with ENGLISH language only. If you think you had an unapproved IUD inserted in the past five years, go back and talk to your doctor about a fda-approved replacement at no charge. One of the side effects of Mirana is cramps. I had it for 6 months and it messed me up psychologically and I had cramps that I told my doctor to take it out or I would do it myself. They took it out and I've been fine ever since. I would suggest taking out the mirana for a while and seeing if that helps. If not then you might be able to find out more about the pain without the mirana's hormones effecting your body.

I have Paragard, the copper IUD (like Mirena except w/out the hormones). I find it does give me menstrual-like cramps, though a little milder, for a couple of days when I am ovulating (which is around the middle of your cycle between periods), and even sometimes light pink trace spotting then also. This might explain why your cramps are sometimes on the left and sometimes on the right. I have 2 friends who are on Mirena and they have the same sort of cramping. I think the only thing that would help would be to remove it. For me, it is an inconvenience, but well worth it to have birth control that I don't have to worry about taking every day! Definitely ask you obgyn about it.

first of all, im sorry to hear you got laid off. if youre in the richmond area, let me know, i may be able to help!

SECOND, and most important, i had the same problems with mirena. i had gotten preggers on birth control TWICE (once the pill, once the patch), and after getting mirena i had EVERY SIDE EFFECT IN THE BOOK! the pain youre feeling sounds similar to what had, which turned out to be OVARIAN CYSTS... soon after, bc i was so sick, i had the thing taken out, and was better almost instantly. get a second opinion from another obgyn in the practice, cysts are no fun!! if youre still having undiagnosed problems, get it taken out. its not worth the pain! i hope this helps... also, this is how we figured out im allergic to birth control.. so keep your eye on your symptoms! -R.

I also have Mirana and some very similar pains. Sometimes even with intercourse. I love my Mirana. I have read some of the responses with great dismay. It sounds like having it taken out is the most popular solution, but I don't really want to do this. My real question now is will it hurt me to leave it in and deal with the pains every now and then? If you hear anything, please let me know.
