Okay, I'm new to the menopause thing so bear with me. I've decided not to take hormone supplements so I need some other guidance from you, your experiences etc. on this. I now have ZZZZERO patience with my kids! What's up with that?? Is this common? They are 11 and 9 and I find myself bickering with them constantly and I have to be honest. They are acting the same, it's me that's changing. I' work part-time so I have a good bit of the day to myself, I'm not particularly stressed about anything, any ideas on how to help myself get back to my pre-menopausal self??

What can I do next?

One thing I found that made me argue and lose my temper was my blood pressure slowly going up. Up until my mid forties my BP was perfect-but then it started being slightly elevated at the doctor's office. After a couple of years of that-nothing to worry about said the doctor-he changed his tune because two of his patients in one year had strokes in their forties after only exhibiting a little bit higher BP.
The up side of getting on BP meds is that my temper went away. I TRULY believe there is a connection between your BP being higher and your patience level being lower. Think of the sayings "my blood was boiling", "I'm going to blow my top". That was how I felt quickly when my kids would do anything- I KNEW I was being short tempered. And my kids were about the same age as yours at the time.
Might be something to check.
Good luck.

I too am menopausal and had every symptom in the book! I started out on bioidentical hormones but wanted something more natural than hormone replacement therapy. I found a natural supplements that work great through a website called women to women. It is run by phyisicians and has a great support center with nurses monitoring by phone. I was able to get off of Estrogen and have decreased the amt. of Progesterone and Thyroid med. that I am on. My symptoms has vastly improved!! One other thing that you might want to look in to as you go through this process is how your adrenal glands are functioning. They are also responsible for hormone levels. Good luck!
May I suggest as you begin this process that you have a bone scan done, too? We lose bone at this time more rapidly and it can happen before we know it. My first scan at age 47 revealed severe osteoporosis! Make sure you take 1200mg of Calciuim a day and that it has Vit. D3 in it. Sunlight helps with the Vit. D, too!

I've been taking black cohosh for about 2 years, it really does eliminate a lot of the symptoms.

Sour Lake, TX...a blast from the past. I grew up there! I am now in Austin. I have the same problem. I have no patience either but it is not limited to just my kids! I was going to acupuncture and it worked wonders. I stopped going because I was feeling so much better and after about 6 months it started coming back so now I go once a week. I was also having hot flashes and night sweats and we resolved that with Chinese herbs.

Wine........kidding.......it's their age, not yours! Pray a lot-everything you've ever taught them can be undone in a single remark issued from a peer. God bless you. If things were always perfect at home-children would not leave-and mankind would not go on. There is a biological need to argue-it doesn't mean that love is absent-xo!

OK--is it menopause or peri-menopause? I'm 47, still get my periods but a few years back I was getting NUTS the week before my period. Is it worse at different times of the month? If so--talk to your doc. Meds can take the "edge" off during those times....

I am trying to figure this out myself. I have gone into perimenopause this last year right before my 39th birthday. Some days I really hate myself and how angry I get. I have taken to thinking that menopause makes one crazy because in the evolutionary sense (think cave people days) we have outworn our "useful" life and the tribe (back in the day) would send the crazy old ladies out to gather and hunt and they were never seen again. I have lost my mind too to the extent that when I took my little girl to the mall to play today I 100% forgot where I parked after. I walked around with her like a crazy lady pushing the remote on my keys waiting to hear the car tweet back to me. I finally remembered it was parked behind a concrete block after 25 damn minutes. Aside from thinking I might be better off than cave days I am not sure where to go either. Sorry to have no answer just know you have company searching for answers too

Hey - feel your craziness. I'm a menopausal 47 with 7 and 13 year-olds and for a while I thought I was going crazy. I went to my ob-gyn and mentioned the problem. My blood pressure was normally 110/70. It was 135/100! He gave me a low-dose hypertension and told me to rigorously exercise daily. I joined a women's gym where I make the time to go 3 times per week (the classes are great). The other days, I take a brisk 1-mile walk (I'm down to 15 minutes) to blow off steam. Between the exercise and the meds, I feel great, I'm calmer, and the former obviously has physical benefits.
Others have mentioned black cohosh. That's typically taken for hot flashes but it's been discouraged by many practioners (including the writers of The People's Pharmacy). Since it's herbal and unregulated, many say don't take it or limit it to 6 months. Discuss that with your dr.
Good luck and keep in mind that this too shall pass. :-) You're not alone.

There are natural alternatives.

Bear in mind, you'd probably need to see a Natruropath.

It is not fun, being around a person, who has hormonally triggered moods.
Me, I get PMS. NOT fun... for me and the others around me at those times. I know that.
So, as a result, "I" need to get it under control. It is not good for others to be around a PMS'ing Mom/Wife.
It can... for some, can destroy relationships.
If you look online, just for PMS... you will see that some women get it so bad, that relationships... do fall apart, because of it.

I would recommend, looking at natural alternatives to help.
Hormone imbalances, need attention.

And make sure it is menopause or just PMS or peri-menopause etc.

So see your Doctor, or a natural route of remedies from a Professional.

I watch Dr. Oz. Go to his website for some info. Mood swings are definitely part of it. And irritability which sometimes comes from lack of sleep which is a side effect of low melatonin (you can get this over the counter) and helps relax you to sleep. No groggy the next morning.
Dr. Oz has mentioned Black cohash but I forgot what for but I wrote it down!! lol
And this is also something he says-have sex. (even if you don't feel like it) It releases the natural hormones.
Good luck.
