Hi, i want to know that have anyone used memory foam mattress top as a mattress directly on the box spring. I have a twin box spring that i want to use as a low seating on the floor or it can be used as a bed for extra guest. I don't want to spend money on an extra mattress as we recently finshed a guest bedroom. I am thinking to buy a 4" thick memory foam mattress top but want to know your suggetions before doing that.

What can I do next?

I've used the memory foam on my bed, both 1.5" and 4" and I don't think either thickness would make for a good mattress.

Hi K.,
The other Mamas are right, 4 inches is not enough on a box spring. When used in hospitals, they have to go with *at least* 8 or 9 inches! 4 inches would only work for kids who don't weigh much.

There are also some excellent inflatable mattresses out there, much better than 10 yrs. ago.

Good luck!

I'm not sure it will be thick/sturdy enough to work on top of a boxspring - I suppose you could always try it out and take it back if it doesn't work. Another idea would be to check into Ikea - they have some foam mattresses that are supposed to be pretty decent for cheaper prices. My friend recently bought a mattress with a topper from them and likes it. You could always check online first, I suppose, see if it's even in your price range.

I am sort of leery of a lot of foam things due to the fumes and toxins. Had a bad experience with a memory foam pillow...bad bad smell. I ended up tossing it. Sometimes bed places have sales for mismatches. It could turn out to be as cheap as a new memory foam one.
Good luck!
