Marriage Retreat/Seminar or Helpful videos/DVD? Dallas Area Locations

My husband and I would like to have a more connected marriage. We aren't good at sharing and we don't' communicate openly about our true selves, hopes, thoughts, dreams, feelings etc. We've tried counseling for years (marriage and individual), which kept us together, but didn't really help us open up to each other. Please don't respond with bashing comments!! Despite this, we have a relatively stable relationship and love each other and love our children wholeheartedly. Each of us had a disfunctional childhood that left lasting scars on us and made us both afraid of truly opening up. We've also had serious adult issues in other areas. We would like to look into a marriage seminar or retreat or something that might open some doors for us and move us forward. Have any of you done anything that was successful? We don't have much money to spend on it, but perhaps some of them are reasonably priced. It would need to be local to the Dallas area since we couldn't afford travel.
Thank you!!

Check out loveandrespect.com. My husband and I really liked it and it got us communicating on a much better level. The husband and wife who run it travel around the country. We saw them last year when they were at Cottonwood Creek in McKinney. It's under $100 for a couple and it's coming to Fort Worth in March. They also sell books and videos. We did the seminar and didn't buy the books and videos, but we kept the material from the seminar.

Have ya'll read Dr. Phil's Relationship Rescue together? It really helps with all those things you mentioned! My husband and I read it together and it helped us alot, along with understanding how we think differently, how to communicate better... We saw a counselor who made us write a list of what we appreciated about each other, and we were challenged to do two unexpected, thoughtful things for each other every single day.

Anyways, those are some basic things that helped us. The previous two responses are great as well.

There is one called the "Weekend to Remember" by Family Life. It is at the Gaylord Texan. Here is the link so you can check it out. I haven't been personally, but I've heard nothing but fantastic things about it and I'm glad you brought it up because I just mentioned it to my hubby and I think we might go when it comes down to Houston area in May! The one in FW is in March. I wish you the best! Here is the link:

We like "laugh you way to a better marriage." It is really funny but at the same time really explains things and gets you talking. They have large amounts of it on YouTube...

I also recommend the Weekend to Remember which someone mentioned below. My husband and I went a few years ago and it was great!
