hi MOMS,
i'm having my first Mammogram... i've heard how uncomfortable they are and am a little concerned. Can anyone tell me if the facility at Centennial Medical Center that claims to have a softer, more comfortable mammo is really that much better than another facility? i am scheduled at Presby Plano, the Sue A DeMille center.
Thank you,

What can I do next?

I've had about 6 mammos now. I think the key is to time them around your period (ie when you're not retaining water and therefore more tender). I'm a bit smaller (b cup if you squint real good), so maybe that's why I really don't think they're bad at all. The only awkward thing is holding the pose while they take the picture. I've never thought of it as painful though. Good luck!

I've had several mamograms, including a recent recheck for a suspicious lump. I won't say if feels good but it doesn't hurt and you can't put a price tag on early detection and getting that letter that tells you all is okay.

I go to Women's Wellness at Medical City-Dallas. They have recently gone digital and they spotted a suspcious mass that I was unable to feel. I was rechecked and it turned out to be a cyst but they saw something I couldn't detect, even after I knew exactly where it was.

Don't worry...even if it were to hurt (mine didn't) it takes 10 minutes max to take pictures on both sides and then you are done. I think the anticipation is harder then the mammo!

Good luck!

I had mine done at in Richardson Women's Health center. It was my first, and honestly, it was no big deal. I'm nursing, so they had to squeeze pretty hard. They used a soft pad like the kind that are on wrist-rests for computer on one side, and the plastic to press down on the other. It's more uncomfortable to get into position, actually, and that wasn't really very bad either. You should be fine :)

You will be okay...:)its definitely not the most pleasant experience, but when its over...its over! If you have breastfed....the pain of the first few times breastfeeding is worse than the mammogram (in my opinion). I was scared, too. But once you do it and know everything is okay, it'll make you forget about the pain. Have one or two glasses of wine and then have someone drive you!:)lol

J. - I recently had my first mammo at the Sue A DeMille center and just cannot say enough wonderful things about this facility and their staff. The mammogram did not hurt one bit. Honestly. I know everyone is different with regards to pain, but they were so gentle and kind and explained everything prior to the procedure. I agree the weirdest part was holding the pose and my breath. Otherwise, Piece O Cake. Just try to relax and be glad that you are in such capable hands!!!!

You will be fine. It does depend on the person doing the mammo. I have had horrid ones and ones that hurt but were not horrid.

I have natural very dense DD's so the squeezing does get to me and I have walked out with bruises.

I go to Women's Diagnostic (Solis) located at the Medical Center Plano area. The first couple were tough and then I learned to ask for a certain person for the procedure and that makes a difference.

The discomfort is not worth the risk of not doing it.

Take a couple of Advil an hour or so before hand and that helps as well.
