Losing 1St Tooth and I Need Tooth Fairy Information...

Our oldest son, (will be six in a couple weeks) is losing his first tooth. I imagine it will come out any day now. He is all about the Tooth Fairy. So, my question, silly as it may seem, is what exactly is the Tooth Fairy paying these days? I know that the children will be talking about this at school, and I just want to know what other people are doing. Any ideas, suggestions, are welcome and appreciated...I need the help and education.

Thank you so much for you time and help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

First, I want to thank all of you for your time and wonderful advice and help. I was really streesing this! He lost his tooth this morning in the car on the way to Grandma and Grandpa's house! We stopped the car, took the pictures, put the tooth in a Tic-Tac box(empty one of course), and talked about it all the way to the Grandparents' house. We will be putting it out for the Tooth Fairy tonight in the box he got from school. I think we will go with the 'gold dollar' for every tooth to keep things smooth and not have to explain why his next tooth wasn't worth as much. I like the idea of the note from the fairy too, so I am going to do that as well. Thankfully, we have a gold dollar in a drawer so we are prepared..sort of. :) He already has another loose tooth..right next to the one that came out...so I guess we will be needing to go to the bank soon because at this rate we will be needing to increase our supply of gold dollars. :)

Thanks again to all of you for your time and wonderfully helpful replies. All the best to you all!!

We tell the kids that the tooth fairy loves and pays more for nice clean brushed teeth with no cavaties/filings. If the teeth are dirty and unbrushed or with filings, she'll leave a penny.

We leave $5 for nice clean brushed teeth with no cavities.

When i posted this question on facebook everyone said $5 and my mouth dropped open. I remember getting quarters growing up. We give my daughter a dollar and she thinks she is rich.

We do a dollar per tooth. My 8yo though has mentioned that other kids get different amounts than him. I think $20 was the most outrageous. Had to respond to this request though as he was talking about the tooth fairy at dinner and he told us that he thinks we are the tooth fairy because she only brings a dollar and we (mommy and daddy) don't have much money. LOL!

We probably won't do money. We did a sheet of My Little Pony stickers and a note from the Tooth Fairy. Our five-year-old loved it. :)

My oldest just lost her first tooth and then a day later the next. The tooth fairy left her an electric toothbrush and $1. Then the next night she left another $1.

The tooth fairy in my brother's house leave much more than that, but I have pretty big issues with over-indulging children.

Mine are very appreciative of what they get from anyone and they really get excited about little things. They also work very hard to save up for special things they want. Right now they are doing chores from a specified list earning 10 cents a chore to buy a hamster. They are very excited and love to color in the $1 blocks on their graph we made.

Seriously, I think the first tooth is special and maybe a little gift is nice, but after that I think the $1 our tooth fairy left was generous.

We have $5 for the first and $1 after that. Hope this helps! Good luck.

I am old school and do not give a lot. My kids get a gold dollar coin and a 50 cent piece. This type of money is not something they see everyday, and enjoy getting it. Even my 11 year old.

As you can clearly see from the answers, the amount varies, even the source varies.
I have friends whose "tooth professional" brings books.
In our house, the rule is a quarter.
I think it all depends upon what you are able to do and what you hope your child will learn from the experience.

You know your child. give him what will get him excited.

Hi, I think the "tooth fairy" has gotten on out hand with money (in my opinion). I talk to some of my friend, and they give $20 for the 1st tooth $5.00 for the next three, then $2.00.... I am like "what" - waaaayyyyy to confusing.... I merely gave the same for every tooth my daughter has lost - she lost 8 so far - the first one being when she was a week before her 5th birthday! Anyway, we give a "Golden Dollar", and my daughter just loved it! For the first tooth, we also printed up a piece of paper and I copied and pasted stuff that I got off the internet...yep, google "tooth fairy", and you will get LOTS of info! My daughter kept those papers and the envelope, and each time puts the gold dollars in the same envelope and counts them every time she loses another tooth! Awesome! She said she is going to wait until they are all gone and then by something! Also, we have a pillow, but we wrap the tooth in a snack bag, so it doesn't get lost, and then put the gold dollar in the same snack bag!!! I don't think they throught this tooth fairy pillow all the way through! ha! But it is adorable, and we have made it work!

Congrats on the 1st tooth!!! Wow, can you believe how time flies???? All the best to you and your family.
