Do you celebrate the Tooth Fairy/Pirate?
If so, how do you do it?
How much do you give for each tooth?
And with that amount...did you know they will lose 20 teeth!?!?
Thanks for your input.

I plan on giving $10 for the first tooth, and $5 for each after that. That's what my Mom did for us. If my kids are anything like me though, they won't loose any teeth until 4th grade, by which time I expect they'll not believe in the tooth fairy.

I usually give a dollar and a fiftycent piece. Itry to trade their tooth for the money under the pillow, though for light sleepers you might want to have them leave it on the edge of the bed.

Hi DeAny,
Well when our older daughter started to lose her teeth we started with five dollars for the first tooth. Because it was a big step in her childhood and her becoming older. After that whatever we gave her was enough. Whether it was a dollar and some change or just change. Just knowing that she believed that the tooth fairy thought of her and brought her something was enough. It don't matter how much you give it is up to you, but just seeing the smiles and happiness on their faces will make you all warm inside. I have no boys so i dont know about the tooth Pirate. Yet!

I love the tooth fairy!
We have a special pillow that has a little pocket that you put the tooth in and hang on the doorknob (this after fruitless searches under pillows in the dark).

Then a trail of glitter (Fairy dust) leads to a random hiding place where a new toothbrush and flavored toothpaste await with a silver dollar.

I also started the "Orthodontic Elf" with my kids. They got a new video game when they got braces (to keep their mind off the initial pain in their mouth) and they "Ortho Elf" brings their favorite icecream or yogurt when they get their braces tightened monthly.

Hi,
We celebrate the Tooth Fairy! We have little boxes in the shape of a tooth. The tooth goes in there and under the pillow. The tooth fairy gives a gold dollar. We also have a book on how the Tooth Fairy came to be, that we read.

We give $5.00 for each tooth, but they have to give it to me to put into their bank account. We figured by the time they lose all 20 teeth, they will have saved $100.00.

We had this same question when we started. The first tooth gets $10, then $5/tooth thereafter. We don't give our kids an allowance, which is part of the reason for the large amount.

We give our son $1.00 per tooth, $5 for molars 'cause they're bigger! I put his tooth in a ziplock, then under his pillow, so it was easier to get to!

D.,
Oh this will be fun! =D Now you could go get one of those "newer" things out..like the small "Tooth Fairy" pillow and there are a few books to get the imagination rolling for them too.
What we did was put the tooth under the pillow when they went to sleep and in the morning the tooth was gone and money was left instead. Sometimes a little card was written from her too which was an added bonus. The amount when I was growing up was never known or discussed(now that I think about it) and I never asked because they never knew?? hmmm LOL
I think I was told I got "paid" for the 2 biggest front teeth and for the molars because they were the biggest and heaviest and most important.(I bought it.=D)
I always though it should go according to the value it means to that child and age. I have lifted that pillow and saw sometimes a wad of silver change or a few $1 bills and silver change and either way I thought I just had scored-LOL
I have seen people use a felted ring box or special little container to put the tooth/$$ in.
I have used and know people that will also put under the pillow with *and without any money:
regular or sugarless candy/gum
new fancy toothbrush
their own toothpaste
travel type plastic toothpaste container/holder
mouthwash
Chapstick/lip gloss
(can use the travel size,99cent size(remove the paper if you want, handemade & personal refillable bottles)
can make it more fun by buying a plastic container to pour the mouthwash in to give-they will think it is special from her and want to use it more?)
HTHIA =)

My daughter just lost her 1st tooth a few weeks ago and he 2nd one about 1 week later. We put her tooth in a zip lock bag under her pillow. I write the date and which tooth was lost on the bag. The first time I left a personalize note from the tooth fairy. ( I got it off the internet for free ) and $1.00. I think she was more excited about he note than the dollar.
The second time the tooth fell out while she was eating and she swallowed it. She didn't think the tooth fairy would come so we wrote the tooth fairy a note telling her what happened. She was thrilled and when she woke up and found a $1.00.

When I was a kid, I got a 41 cents - a quarter, a dime, a nickel and a penny. I wanted to do the same. My husband is more generous. He does a silver dollar or a gold dollar, a fifty cent piece and then the other coins. Sometimes we have to substitute. My kids always write notes and we write back. It is very sweet. We also do glittery fairy dust.

My son's first tooth he got a Sacagoweea dollar coin. And that sparked a coin intrest. Every time he looses a tooth he gets some kind of coin he's been looking for. It's easy to go to the bank and ask for certain coins like dollars or fifty cent coins. Or like my son he started to collect the state quarters so he was thrilled with a quarter under his pillow if it was a state he didn't have before. Most banks keep all the quarters on hand so you just have to ask. Alaska and Hawaii are not out yet. Neither are all his teeth.

With four kids, we give .50 cents for teeth and $1 for molars from the Tooth Fairy. You could certainly make it .25 and .50 though. It's not really about the money, but about the thought and the magic of it for the kiddos. It's not like they lose all 20 teeth in one day, so it can be spaced affordably ;)

Best,
C.

Hi D.!
The toothfairy is big at our house right now. I have a 7 yr old loosing teeth like crazy! We usually give a few dollars up to $5. We also leave "fairy dust" that is pink glitter I got at Walmart in the craft section for 98 cents. You can use blue glitter if it's for a boy. We also have a tooth fairy box that she leaves her tooth in (so we don't have to go digging around under her pillow). I also keep track of which tooth she lost, how it was lost, how much she got and any thoughts she might have. Hope that helps!

When I was a kid my parents took us out for ice cream when we lost a tooth. The one who lost the tooth got 2 scoops of ice cream. That is what we do with our kifs and they love it.

Tooth Fairy, yep! Never heard of the Pirate though - tell me about that.

I love notes but that doesnt always happen. He loves the notes too and is thrilled with notes (even the ones that read "brush your teeth" haha) He puts it under his pillow then when he's good and asleep, the fairy comes and replaces the tooth with 50 cents to a dollar (I think it was 25 cents for my teeth, so that's a good inflationary increase, ya think?)

Hi D., I have 3 kids, 12, 9 and 6. They get $5 for their first lost tooth and $1 for each tooth after that. I know the $5 is probably high, but that started when my daughter was sleeping over at grandma's when she lost her first tooth and that's what she gave her! We sort of had to keep the same for the others after that! We also have a cute little pillow with a pocket for the tooth so it doesn't get lost, we put it on the dresser or night stand next to their bed. Hope that helps!

Wow. I read some of your other responses and it looks as if inflation has hit the tooth fairy too!! LOL
My daughter just started loosing her teeth too.
I gave her $1.00 for the first one. She received $.50 for the second one. She loves coins so I made it fun by giving her a quarter, dime, nickels, and pennies. I plan on giving her $.50 for the tiny front teeth and $1.00 for her molars. I don't want to set her expectations up too high! I did type up a cute little poem from the "tooth fairy", just for the first one, saying that she will be returning again!
