Hi, I am quite new to the Boston area and looking for a new Ob/Gyn affiliated with MGH. I decided to go for this location since it is convenient for me. Gender doesn't matter, I think I prefer a doctor to a midwife. Also, I am interested in your experience of delivering a child in MGH. Is it a "cozy" place or does it feel like a "factory"?
Please share your recommendations with me. Thank you.

I loved Dr. Baute as well. She is kind and a great doctor, smart but never judgmental. Wonderful for a first-time mom especially. But I wasn't impressed with labor/delivery and the postpartum unit. There are too many nurses and students -- tons of people coming in and out of the room constantly, and they are always in a rush. I needed help breastfeeding and didn't get it. Did not feel like world-class care even though MGH is a world-class hospital. I'd go somewhere else.

Dr Lisa Baute was my OB/GYN while I was pregnant with my first child. She is wonderful, as was everyone who we encountered at MGH during the process. We had a great experience and will be sticking with them for baby #2, even though we live outside of the city now.

Hello, I am currently pregnant and going to MGH for the second time. My OB is Dr. Kickham who is terrific. When I was in labor with my son the first time, he was having dangerous fetal heart decels. It was a long night to say the least but the staff from top to bottom could not have been better. Clinically sound, very attentive to our needs and answered our millions of questions clearly. We ended up a c-section which went fine.
Without hesitation, I highly recommend the practice to you.

I delivered at Mass General ten years ago next month and had a fabulous experience. No factory feeling at all. Nurses, staff, delivery room - everything was top notch, warm and friendly. My doctor was Susan Treadwell, also excellent. She is (or at least was) located right at Mass General.

Congratulations and best of luck

I loved my experience at MGH. My doctor was Dr. Kristen Eckler. She's not warm and fuzzy but she is wonderful and helpful and available. I will go to her again! Oh and I loved the practice, all of it.

Hi E.. Lisa Baute was my ob for both my pregnancies. She was absolutely wonderful as were the other docs I met in the practice. However, I can't say the same for my experience with the hospital. My first labor was very long (constant contractions, but I wasn't dilating) and I was in the hospital for much of it. The nurses were kind and helpful and my delivery went well. A nurse midwife delivered my son b/c he arrived when all the docs were in two different c-sections. The postnatal care was also great and I decided to return to MGH for my second delivery. Again, it was a very long labor and this time they kept sending me home (after 17 hours of labor). The first time around I lived in Boston, but for my second delivery I was driving back and forth from the suburbs. Unfortunately I did not make it back to MGH for the delivery (my son was born at Newton-Wellesley) and I was about 15 minutes away from having him at home. Once I started dilating the first time I delivered in less than 20 minutes. The same thing happened during my second labor and for this reason I shouldn't have been sent home. They didn't have a room for me, which is one of the issues with going somewhere like MGH. I wish I could recommend MGH, especially since I used to work there and it's an incredible facility with wonderful doctors, but if I have a third child I definitely won't take the risk and will go back to Newton-Wellesley. It sounds like you live close to MGH so this type of thing wouldn't happen to you, but it's a big place and you might have to speak up if you feel that your needs aren't being met. Best of luck with your pregnancy!
