We are looking for a safe beach that has a picnic area and playground in our area. We live in Oakland County, Rochester Hills. Can anyone recommend a great park/beach?

What can I do next?

Stoney Creek park is really nice. It is off of 26 mile around Mound. They have both beach and playground. You have to by a pass for the day or for the year $20. But with it you can go to other metro parks. Metro Beach has a Squirt Zone that we like a lot. It's beach isn't so great, but the kids love the squirt zone. Metro beach is a ways east at the end of 16mile. But, Stoney is great.

I know the Themla Spencer Park has beach and some short walking trails. That is off of John R just south or Auburn. Personally growing up , I loved playing at the playground at Hamlin elementary school.

Also Stony Creek Metro Park is very close to you as well. It will have more beach.

You should try Stoney Creek Metropark, they have so many playgrounds and picnic areas as well as swimming areas with lifegaurds. I think it costs $4 for a daily pass.

We love our Metroparks pass - we go to Kensington all the time, there are some great family beaches, a farm and a waterpark - in addition to all the other stuff. Each Metropark is different but I would recomend you get a $20 pass and go check them out.

There is a beach very close to you in Shelby Township called Stony Creek Metro Park. It is a very nice park with beaches, picnic areas and trails. It is located at 26 mile and Shelby Road.
Also there is Thelma G. Spencer Park that is in Rochester hills. It is located on the east side of John R, between Auburn and South Blvd.

You can look them both up on Google and get more descriptions of amenities.

Spencer Park on John R just north of M59. A little hard to get to now because of construction, but a great, well-maintained beach and great lifeguards. (My son is one of them!)

Thelma G Spencer park on John R between Auburn and South boulevard has a toddler beach with lifeguards and a play set, concession stand, rest rooms and a changing area and path around the lake. Entrance fee is reduced for Rochester Hills residents. There is currently roadwork on John R so check which road the entrance is accessible from.
Have fun - my 6 1/2 year old twins love it there....

Spencer Park on John R. Clean beach, huge play area with play structure, picnic tables and reasonably priced concessioin stand. We just spent 5 hours there yesterday, myself and my 4 kids and would have stayed longer if we hadn't had someplace we had to be!

Hello S.,

Have you tried Spencer Park? It is on John R at either 19 Mile RD or Auburn. I have not been there in awhile. However I do remember it being a great place for families. It does cost to get in - but if you are a resident of Rochester it is a reduced price.

Hope this helps - have a great day!

I also suggest Spencer Park! I was just there 2 weeks ago and it is very clean and very nice.

It costs $5 for the day if you are a Rochester resident.
An annual pass is $25 for Rochester residents.
