Looking for Pediatrician in Forest Hills

We just moved to FH a few months ago and are expecting twins at the end of September. I am hoping to find a pediatrician in the area, especially one good with twins. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi, K.,
Congrats on the twins! I have twin daughters who are now 2 1/2, and we have used Forest Hills Pediatrics since they were born:

I don't know where you are delivering, but the doctors in this practice all have privileges at Schneider Children's Hospital (attached to LIJ in New Hyde Park), which was important to me with twins since I was delivering at LIJ and I knew there was a higher chance that my babies might need to spend some time in the NICU (they ended up spending their first night there).

There are maybe 10 doctors in this practice, and we have seen them all. They're all good and handle seeing two babies at a time well, but we particularly like Drs. Quinn and Rivkin. You can set up a mother's meeting before you deliver, to get a sense of the office's practices and figure out if it's right for you.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
A.

Dr. Izak Reischer in Forest Hills is very good, although I'm not sure about the twins part. Doesn't hurt to call and ask. Good luck to you!

Don't have any names to recommend in your area, but as a parent of twins I think it is good to look for someone who is good with twins. The main pediatrician in the practice that I use (in Baldwin) is a twin mom herself and I love seeing her, but unfortunately she is hard to get an appointment with. I am dealing a lot with the other two doctors being concerned that my 13 month twins have fallen off their growth curve in weight. It irks me that they only look at their chart and the percentages when they express these concerns, but don't really consider some really important factors about the twins.
1. They look good - I think my son would look heavy with a lot more weight on him unless he was taller and my daughter is just very petite with small hands and feet.
2. They are twins and twins are born earlier and often smaller!
3. Neither my husband or I (or our parents/siblings) are very large people.

So, after that little venting session - I just want to reiterate - yes, as a twin mom I think you would benefit from having a pediatrician who understands and is good with twins.

There is a Forest Hills Parents Listserve that I have used for the past few years (it now has over 300 parents on it). That would probably be the best place to post your question. I also go to Forest Hills Pediatrics, they are the only group practice in Forest Hills and that's where it seems that most people go. I have been somewhat unhappy with them for the past year or so and may switch soon. There's been a lot of discussion of the practice on the listserve, you could search for old messages (most are unhappy with the support staff, rather than the drs). If you are interested in the listserve, let me know. I (or any member of the listserve) would have to send your email address to the moderator, that's how they keep out spammers.
Something else I just remembered - an acquaintance of mine who has 1 year old twins goes to FH pediatrics and she just told me a couple weeks ago that she has been very happy with them. (fyi, mamasource has people from all over the area, including NJ, it's not as good of a source for local info)
