Looking for Ob-gyn for a High Anxiety Mom

I have a girlfriend who is looking for an OB-gyn (her old one retired) in the Austin area. She has high-risk pregnancies and lost her first son to SIDS when he was 5 months old. She needs someone who can be emotionally available to her, as well as medically. Someone who will take their time and understand her particular issues. Not someone who will rush her in & out or dismiss her concerns. Personally, I love Dr. Rosa Moreno - but her office wait-times can be a little crazy! So, if anyone knows of another MD who fits the bill - let me know! Thank you!

What can I do next?

I love my OB, Dr. Devin Garza, he works in the same practice as Dr. Pevito at Seton NorthWest. He is very cautious and always errors on the side of caution. He is a very good listener and always treats you like you are his only patient, which is why there is often a wait. I know many people who use him, and many went to him because they had difficult pregnancies. He is just awesome and his whole staff is great.

Dr. Patrick Peveto at Seton Northwest. I think all the good OB's have crazy wait times, but you will feel like you are his only patient when you are with him. I had an emotional situation as well and was very anxious about the birth of my first child. He was awesome and very encouraging. I will always remember some of the things he told me to comfort me. He also told me that at any point, he would stop and pray with me if I wanted. What Dr. does that? He is the best! He delivered both of my kids and I had an awesome experience both times...have sent most of my friends to him as well. Good Luck. Im so sorry for your friends loss...i cant even imagine what she must be going through.

My OB-Gyn group is AWESOME!!! I see Michelle Irvin, but the other twodoctors, Dr. Michel and Dr. Baylor are AWESOME! I have MANY friends who go to one of the three, and have heard wonderful things about them. Dr. Irvin is wonderful, she's funny when you need to laugh, and very sympathetic and caring. Their number is: ###-###-####...tell your friend good luck!

Hi V.,

If your friend doesn't mind seeing a male OB/GYN then I would suggest that she see Chris Seeker, M.D.

There's none better in Austin.

He's brilliant and has an awesome, very patient and attentive bedside manner.

J.,
Austin

Dr. Seeker at Seton Main. I have many many friends who use him and most of them fall in love with him bc he has the best bedside manner ever! super compassionate. HOWEVER, he is so popular that you do end up waiting alot.

Her son was 5 months old when he died of SIDS? That just knocked the wind out of me when I read it. I am so sorry for her!

I LOVED my OB-GYN! His name is Dr. Paul Bushart ###-###-####) and he has a great reputation and was named one of Texas Monthly's "Super Doctors" (recommended and voted on my their peers) in the December '07 issue. I don't think I ever had to wait at all when I went in for a visit.

Dr. Alinda Cox, same office and same phone number, was the OB-GYN on call at the hospital the day I delivered, and she was wonderful! I'd seen her in the office once when I needed to be seen ASAP and Dr. Bushart was out of town. I know other people whose babies she's delivered and we all love her.

I'd highly recommend either of them. Good luck to your friend. My son is 5 months old now and I can't imagine losing him. I can't even imagine the fear your friend is experiencing right now. My thoughts and prayers for a strong and healthy pregnancy go out to her.

Dr. Laurette Smith at Renaissance Women's Group. They are across the street from North Austin Medical Center. I found out with my second child that she was not staying engaged and I would probably require a c-section. I was really upset and went back into her office after having the ultrasound to confirm and the nurses took me into an exam room and several of them came in and talked to me and Dr. Smith came in herself and talked with me and reassured me. I felt so much better and validated. I know it's not as serious as what your friend has experienced but I was not brushed off or ignored for feeling scared or worried. She is VERY patient and warm. With our first, our appointments would take forever because my husband would ask a ton of questions. She would sit and listen and answer every single one of them and we never felt rushed or stupid for asking them. We felt like she had all the time in the world for us. And that she wanted to be there. She was wonderful through my c-section and recovery also. Very caring.
I hope this helps and wish your friend luck!
