I sent a chocolate covered fruit basket for the whole office. My baby was born before the holidays and I thought that would be a nice way to have "sweets" for the holidays, but also fruit.

A picture of your baby for their wall and a plant or flowers are nice. That's so sweet of you to think of your OB.

first--congrats on the new love in your life. i am a postpartum nurse and i know that working in the hospital, we loved getting baskets of candy or anything we could eat from new parents. i am sure your doc will just appreciate the gesture. but the best way to a meds heart is through the belly! ha Oh yeah, i probably wouldn't spend alot of money on your doc seeing as how he/she probably can buy himself/herself anything he/she wants, so be cheap and creative. besideds you have diapers and wipes to buy now!

After every baby I gave my midwife or OB a homemade card expressing my gratitide for the care I received. I included a picture of the midwife or OB with the baby. With my first baby I even sent a card to the L & D nurse. With my last baby I gave cards to the OB nurses, sonographer, L&D nurse and OB. My pregnancy was considered high risk so I was seen weekly from 32 weeks on. I ran into the sonographer at a restaurant recently and she told me how much it meant to her to receive a card and she was so excited to see the baby - he is now 4 months old. She doesn't usually get to see the babies she scans.

Hi S., congrats on the baby! I picture of the new bundle of joy is always nice. I also sent pizza for their lunch one day. They really appreciated that. I asked the receptionist what time they usually took lunch and had it delivered around that time. Take care, and good luck!

Definitely include the staff in whatever you do. I am friends with my OB and he was very bugged that a sales rep brought him lunch but not the staff. After my delivery I took them a fruit bouquet and some munchies. I did think about a wine basket but didn't feel like that would split up well between staff and seemed more for him than them. They were a huge part of my care and deserved to be thanked as well. Good luck and congrats.

Sending a picture of the baby with a thank you note is a great idea. Keep in mind some doctors will not take gifts from patients because of bylaws set in place by the state medical board.
