Take a pic of her and your baby. Frame it. It is the best gift.

J.,
After our daughter was born, we gave our wonderful OB/GYN a Cross pen with his name engraved on it. Doctors can always use a good pen. He delivered two of our children and he's still my GYN. You can go to Office Depot or Fast Fix in the Cerritos Mall (it's a kiosk across from the food court. Andy sells Cross pens and he engraves right on sight). Good luck.

I have never heard of giving an ob/gyn a gift. It is their job to deliver your baby. I think it is nice to send a card with a picture of the dr/baby or just the baby as a thanks, but I don't think there is a doctor in the world who thinks they should receive gifts for doing their job.

I got our picture taken in the hospital... hubby, me, Dr and baby then I framed it and brought it to my 6 week check up. I know there are lots of pics in his office... but not seperately framed. :)

My son was born right aroung Christmas so I baked for him and his office staff some of the special things I normally bake for friends at that time of year. I think anything is nice and it just shows you appreciated them.

I did the picture and personal card. But after seeing some creative ideas I am also thinking of personalized notepads or postits with the picture, or even pens with the baby name/birthdate (this is good to give to anyone). But I would think that doctors use pads and pens a lot, and they would think of you evertime they used them.
Hope this helps.

In my ob-gyn's office, every patient (or most every patient) gives the doctor a framed pic of the new baby with the baby's weight, height and name on it-as well as a "Thanks, Dr. X!" written across the top of the frame. They have them up all around the office and in all of the examining rooms. It's so neat to look at all of the healthy little babies these doctors have brought into this world while I'm waiting for my examination.
Just an idea:)

I am glad you want to give the doc a thank you gift...that is very nice of you! I gave up trying to find just the right gift and went straight to the dr's rn/assistant/office manager/etc. I asked what he/she liked to do as a hobby, or favorite food, favorite wine or liquor, or if there was a charity the dr supported and if a donation would be appreciated/favorite book or author/favorite unwind and relax routine (enjoying a cigar and drink with a book or movie). The staff always had good ideas and they were perfect! The several dr's I have done this with have really felt "understood" or appreciated cuz I zero'd in on what they enjoy. Good Luck!

I'm a big fan of "services" like facials, manis/pedis, something from a day spa. Food is good too, like specialty coffees or fruit from Harry and David, if you know what she likes. If it's a guy some services would still work, but then food would be a better betnb! Trinkets and more STUFF isn't what anybody needs :)

I worked an OB/Gyn and he got tons of gifts. Anything from a simple thank you to a VERY expensive watch!! Most of the time, he would get Harry & David, things like that. He really appreciated the cards that patients wrote in!

I like the Dream Dinners idea that someone suggested! These docs don't have a lot of time to cook. I gave my OB a lobster gram.

Hi J.,

That's such a sweet thing you're doing for your ob/gyn! Well, I have a few ideas: a gift certificate to Dream Dinners (the make-it-yourself meals you can prepare ahead of time to save time; www.dreamdinners.com), or you can give her a gift certificate for a mani/pedi, a house plant, a box of chocolates (but I don't know if you're ob/gyn likes chocolates), send her flowers, or send her Edible Arrangements (www.ediblearrangements.com) or a wine basket/fruit basket. Oh yea, and look at www.vermontteddybear.com and give your ob/gyn a teddy bear in scrubs or in the Dr. gown!

Well hope those ideas will help!

Ask his/her nurse or receptionist what would be appropriate in your price range. That way you'll know from someone close to them. The best gift I've found is when a patient refers a friend/colleague/relative. It is the highest compliment.

NICE!!! I always gave my OB as well as my nurses who cared for me in the hospital a gift, and my friends thought that I was crazy. Of all the people that you should thank in your lifetime, the people who helped bring your child into the world should be at the top of the list!
My OB is male, so it was a little harder to find a gift for him. One time, I gave him a plant for his office. The next time I gave him a bottle of wine. The third time I gave hime some homemade brownies. I always wrote a thank you note as well. A gift card to Starbucks or a restaurant might be nice too. Doctors don't expect anything, since they've charged you thousands of dollars along the way, but I still think it's nice to give them a little thank you gift.
For my nurses, I always made earrings or necklaces (ahead of time) and took them to the nurses' station when I went in for the PKU test (when the babies were two weeks old.) They won't tell you the nurses' last names, so be sure to remember if they were your day or night nurse and a last initial is helpful if you know it.
Good luck on the delivery of your baby! :)

My sister, Alyssa, lives in town and has her own home-based business making custom gift baskets. She make any size, for any amount, and she will deliver! Her prices are honest, and she really puts a lot of personal touch into each basket. She has a website www.bestbetbaskets.com if you want to get ideas, or she can help you come up with what you want... she will just ask you a few questions over the phone. I'm going to have a picture taken with my OB and the new baby in the delivery room, then create a digital scrapbook page with that picture as well as one or two others of just the baby and have the page say "You Rock Doc! Thanks for making our family bigger & better." Then I will mount & frame it as a gift for him to hang in his office.

I went to Williams Sonoma and they put together a nice quickbread and spread, all wrapped up nicely in cello. There are great food items there. The blueberry pancakes with a spoonula or a spatula, that's great. Or a syrup, heck. The pastas and sauces. It's a great store!

Hi J.,
That's really sweet that you're thinking of your OB/GYN - I know that they get really touched when patients remember them with things like that. For my OB, after my first kid, I think I sent flowers to her office, and after my 2nd child, I got her a Harry & David gift basket. Hope this helps! (p.s. if you know whether your OB has kids, a food basket is fun, if you do like a hot chocolate set - depending on the season, or something the whole family can enjoy).
Blessings, B. (Cypress)

Hi J. ---

I work with an ObGyn and my boss likes gift certificates to places like Best Buy or the restaurants that he frequents. The best way to find out is to ask him in conversation what his interest and hobbies are and go from there. The reason my boss likes the certificates is so that he can get what he likes and then tell everyone that you got it for him.

Hope this helps. I wish you an easy labour.

I have to agree with Suzanne on this one. I really think that payment is enough, but if you want to do more I would give rave reviews at Dr review websites & give a nice thank you card. If you're OB is seriously that great, you should be spreading the news to everyone :)

This is very interesting. I have delivered three kids. My doc only delivered 1 of them, the other 2 were on call drs. It never even dawned on me to give any of them a gift. I would think payment would be enough. If you are especially appreciative, I would think a personal thank you card would be great, or even a nice "testimonial" they can use in ads, mailers, etc., and I'm sure they'd much prefer the referral of your friends over a gift basket. Can you imagine how much "stuff" the ob would end up with every mama gave them a gift? It's very thoughtful of you though.

Hi J.,

I gave my OB/GYN a nice heartfelt thank you card and some (yes, really) used cds from my collection. I figured there's nothing that I could give him (other than the picture and the card) that he couldn't get himself and his office really needed a better variety of music in the waiting room. He loved it and took some home to burn before letting his staff enjoy them.

I have a male obgyn who is also very health conscious. believe it or not he gets flowers and LOVES them. Perhaps a living plant - one you pick out or some nice flowers with the pic of your baby and a note.

I am pretty health conscious and I have a home business in the wellness field. I am thinking of giving mine a basket of some items for men.

Or if you have ever see this site it looks pretty good and will ship for you. http://www.winecountrygiftbaskets.com

No matter what you do I bet he will really be thrilled! Congrats on your baby too!

Most OB/GYNs like to post pictures of the babies they deliver. Find a nice frame and put a picture of your angel in it to give your ob. I wouldn't do much more than that unless you are related or is a close friend/family friend to your dr. In that case, I would go to Things Remembered at the mall and find something there that would be appropriate. You can always give a nice pen set too.
