Any suggestions for a great female OB GYN in Downers Grove, IL or surrounding areas? I would ideally like to deliver at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. This is our first child so I'm looking for excellent bedside manner as well as a knowledgeable doctor who is willing to answer all of my questions.

Through a bit of research, I found two doctors that sparked my interest. Dr. Gloria Kim of TRE Medical out of Downers Grove and Dr. Susan Mitchell of DuPage Medical Group OBGYN out of Downers Grove. Both are affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Has anyone been to either of these doctors?

I really wanted to see Dr. Virginia Kelly of TRE but she is not accepting new patients :-(

What can I do next?

Dr. Kim is great, she is in a group witH another woman doctor, dr. Kelly who is also great. Their group does have 2 male doctors who you might also see on visits. I've seen them all and have had a great experience with their group...just had baby number 3!

Dr. Radhika Chawla. She delivered both my kids at Good Sam. Her office is in the physician's building adjoining the hospital. I absolutely love her. She is so professional and competent. She is not chirpy and chatty - but she's great and her little wry jokes every so often make her more personable. I think she is great!

Good luck and Congratulations!

I also go to TRE Medical, but haven't seen Dr Kim yet since she's fairly new to the group. Dr Kelly is wonderful. As others mentioned, you do have to rotate and see all the doctors included Dr Jenks and Dr Lawler (the guys), but they are also really good. I hadn't had a male gyno before this practice, but I would definitely recommend them. From my experience, Dr Kelly is the most detailed and will talk to you forever (therefore, she often runs late with appts so I purposely schedule with her when I can take more time), Dr Jenks will explain all the medical info you ever wanted to know, and Dr Lawler is usually pretty brief, unless you have something specific to discuss. We just went through some issues though, and Lawler was on duty and I have to say his response and bedside manner made us feel 100% better about the whole situation. Dr Jenks did the ultrasound for my 1st and I really appreciated how he showed us every detail and kept looking for better views. He also delivered my second, after I had to call him at home around midnight to determine if I needed to come in or wait. I should also say good choice for delivering at Good Sam--their labor nurses are wonderful--esp Monique if she's still there! Only one so-so nighttime nurse in the recovery room, but still way above what I expeceted. Good luck!

I enthusiastically second Heather's recommendation of Pat Schneider and Shari Haney at West Suburban Women's Health. I drove all the way from Oak Park for them and could not have been happier! Pat and Shari are top notch Certified Nurse Midwives. They work closely with the doctors on staff at West Suburban. West Suburban has excellent lactation specialists and physical/massage therapists as well, for any additional services you might need. Pat and Shari are part of a calm, and competent oasis of healthcare for everything an expectant mom might need. Good luck, S.!

If you are willing to deliver at Hinsdale Hospital, Patty Schneider or Sherri (the midwives) at West Suburban Women's Health in Willowbrook are amazing and worth any drive. Myself and several of my friends have delivered with Patty and are very pleased.

Dr. Ramona Marsh delivered both of my babies at Good Sam. Her office is right in the professional building at Good Sam. The nice thing is she is in her own practice, so you only see her. Also, I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes and she's very quick to call you back if you have a question and get in to see her. She definitley takes the time to talk and discuss your pregnancy and options. Good luck and congratulations! Also, you'll have a wonderful experience at Good Sam! The nurses are wonderful. Take advantage of the classes they offer too.

I just wanted to second everything Nict said below. TRE is a wonderful practice and always very highly reviewed. I do know, as you said too, Dr. Kelly is not accepting new patients, but you would see her in your rotation of all the doctors at some point anyway and she is very thorough in her care of you. Dr. Jenks does an amazing job of doing the ultrasound. Dr. Kim is very nice- I saw her only a few times, but I felt like she would be just as good as the others. Dr. Lawler is also nice, brief yes, but still good, too- he also really takes his time with the ultrasound which I liked. They are all good really. And Good Sam is an excellent hospital to deliver at!

I've heard great things about DuPage Medical Group in general as well, so I'm sure you can't go wrong their either.

Congrats on Baby #1!!!! :) So exciting!

I used TRE Medical Group. Dr. Kim is great, as are the other 3 doctors. Dr. Lawler, Dr. Jenks and Dr. Kelly. They do ask you to meet with each doctor at least once as there is no way to determine which one will be on call when you deliver (unless it is scheduled). Dr. Jenks delivered my 2nd and Dr. Kelly did the follow-up in the hospital. I met with Dr. Lawler and Dr. Kim several times. They are all very patient and wonderful. They are more than willing to talk through any questions or concerns. When I wasn't feeling right, they took the time to figure out what was causing it and fix the problem instead of just saying "its pregnancy" like some other doctors would have. I would highly recommend them. I like that their office is in the Professional Building attached to the hospital. It makes it easy when it comes time for labor, as the doctor is just down the hall and can check on you throughout the day and when the time comes, is there in a flash.
