We're starting to think about baby number 2 and I'm looking for a new OB. I'm in Westmont, but I'll drive a bit for a great doctor! I'm looking for a doc who follows his/her own pts and has experience or specializes in high risk pts. Thanks!

I too will drive for a good OB and I have with both of my children. LaGrange Women's Clinic is out of LaGrange Hosptial and Hinsdale Hospital. I know they work with high risk b/c my cousin was high risk and her OB referred her to them once she got pregnant. There are six docs in the practice and there is not one I wouldn't see, however my personal favorite is Dr. Lin. He is in his 30's and has two of his own children and is so gentle and easy to talk with. He delivered my last baby in August and I was so happy with him. They are located in the professional building at LaGrange and I have BCBS HMO which they accept.

My OB is located in Willowbrook, off Plainfield Rd. It is called West Suburban Women's Clinic and the practice is 4 female OB's and 2 female midwifes. This way you know you will have a female deliver your child. I love every doctor in the practice. They deliver out of Adventist Hinsdale or Adventist LaGrange Hospitals. I work for the Adventist system, and you can't go wrong with delivering at Hinsdale. (That is where I delivered). Nikki

I am lucky enough to have a very good friend who is a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Edward Hospital. When my husband and I decided to start a family, I asked her for her opinion of a good doctor for us. (I figured she would know best since she sees a LOT of doctors in action). She recommended a woman named Dr. Julie Jensen. My girlfriend said that not only is Dr. Jensen a great doctor, she can tell that Dr. Jensen truley loves her work. To me, that was important. I go to her and I really like her. I referred her to a friend and she really likes her too.
I know you were looking for a doctor who specializes in high risk patients. I don't know if Jensen "specializes" in high risk patients, but I do know that she delivered Baby Zoe, who was born at only a few ounces and survived. In fact, I think that baby even held some sort of record. Dr Jensen also delivered quintuplets a few years ago. The story was all over the news and Dr Jensen even made an appearance on Oprah because of it.
There is a downside, however. Her office visit wait time is horrible. There were times when I had to wait up to two hours to see her. I am told, though, that if you have flexibility, schedule your appointments so you are the first patient of the day and you won't have to wait long.
One last thing. You asked for a doctor who follows her own patients. Dr. Jensen shares her practice with three other doctors and you will have to see them all because it is luck of the draw when it comes time to deliver. I will say that I think all of the doctors in that practice are wonderful!
Their practice, if you are interested is Naperville Health Care Associates and they are located on Martin Ave. in Naperville - right next to Edward Hospital. Good luck in your search.

Hi L.! My personal OB is Dr. Pourtabib. He is out of Edward Hospital and has one other partner, Alice Mihelcic. We are fairly new to the area - going on 6 years - I was pregnant when we moved here, was referred to their 3rd partner, who has now retired. I have seen both of the other OB's, and just love Dr. Pourtabib. He is very personable, and down to earth. I highly recommend him and Dr. Mihelcic. They are great! I don't have their number handy, but I'm sure you can get their number from information, or even through the hospital's referral line. Good luck! Hope everything works out well!! J.

Hi L.,
I go to a place in Downers Grove called West Suburban Obstetrics. I love them! Their whole staff is amazing. I have seen all 5 of their doctors but the one I love the most, and who actually delivered my child, is Dr Nolan-Watson. She is great! They are located out of Good Samaritain hospital.
Good Luck!

I use Virginia Kelly out of Tre Medical in Downers Grove (Good Sam Professional Building), although I would recommend anyone out of the practice (James Jenks, Martin Gallo, Lawler). I have a very complicated medical history (toxic shock, DVTs, etc.) and this group has been able to handle everything. They are extremely patient centered and their office staff is polite and courteous. We just had baby #2 with them and wouldn't think of doing it again without them!

L.,

I work with mamas and babies in the LaGrange Area. The following are referrals from other area mamas. I know that Loyola would be a great choice based on the level of critical care.

I am not sure who of this list qualifies as a high risk ob/gyn but you might call the hospitals referral lines for help.

It seems that at Loyola Robert Mittendorf, M.D.,Dr.P.H. , FACOG specializes in high risk patients you can call ###-###-#### which is Loyola's referral number. Also, go online to the hospitals you are looking at and get a better feel from the doctor's bio's if you have not already and then have a consultaion with those you think might fit your needs. If you have not already.

Also, lastly I run a local online group called LaGrange area mamas, which is a private e-mail group. We offer the same kind of support and post local area happenings, as well. If you are interested let me know.

I hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,
K.

I live in Darien, but when I needed to find a high-risk OB I found a great one through some research and some good luck. Her name is Katherine Nolan-Watson and she is affliated with Good Samaritan in Downers Grove. My husband and I both loved her friendly, knowledgable manner and felt very comfortable voicing any concerns or questions. My first pregnancy was high risk, but we always felt that we were in very capable hands. Her office recently moved a short distance away from the hospital to Lombard (near Yorktown) and the numbers are ###-###-#### or ###-###-####. Also, she accepts nearly any insurance plan, which I know from experience can be an important consideration. Good luck!
