I am a christian and grew up going to Assembly of God church in Hibbing Mn. I am looking for a Bible based church to bring my children to. I would like to find a congregation that is up beat/contemporary with a 30 something crowd :) I would like to meet new people in this area that share my desire to live a strong christian life...

What can I do next?

Hi K.-

We attend Westwood Church in Chanhassen and love it. We live in St. Louis Park so it's a little bit of a drive but it's worth it. The pastor is an incredible speaker and the childrens' programs are great. There are a wide range of ages that attend but I would say it's primarily young families. Although I am not doing it this year, I have also attended MOPS (Mother's of Preshoolers) there.

Westwood is a daughter church of Wooddale in Eden Prairie. There are also several other churches in the cities that have sprouted from Wooddale. I believe there is one in Hopkins...called Emmaus Road. They meet in a school or theater I think. All of the churches are bible based learning churches and have some affliation with Baptist but are primarily non-denominational.

Send me a message if you would like to know more! Good luck and God Bless!

I go to a church in Bloomington. Its called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. I love the warmth that you feel from members. Everyone is welcoming and inviting. The spirit is an even better feeling. Email me if you would like more info.

What area do you live in?
If you live near Bloomington, Lakeville, New Hope, Uptown or South Minneapolis, I would recommend Evergreen Church - great bible based. Several locations. good contemporary music and a younger crowd - lots of young kids. www.evergreencc.com/

If you are more west, I would also highly recommend Woodridge in Medina (close to the Plymouth border). Just the one location. Bigger church, great kids programs, phenomenal music. Bible based, of course. woodridgechurch.org/

Good luck in your search.

I think you should try the Eagle Brook Chruch (eaglebrookchurch.com), it has everything, even a coffee shop. I don't go to this church because it is too contemporary for my wonderful husband. I go to St. Matthews Lutheran ELCA, and you are more than welcome to join us we are a smaller church with about four 30 something families. We are having our Christmas Children program on the 21 and would love to have more children in it. If you are interested I will send you the dates for the after service practices. I know how hard it can be to find a church that will meet the needs of your family. Eagle Brook has it all, and St. Matthews is uniquely ready to be made into what you need. Happy Church shopping! If you plan to visit let me know so I can introduce you to some people.

I go to Eagle Brook and would definitely recommend it. There are three campuses -- White Bear Lake, Lino Lakes, and Spring Lake Park. We're just starting a new series this week. The church is huge as a whole -- the Lino Lakes campus is the largest and Spring Lake Park is the smallest. My husband and I go to Spring Lake Park. I think average attendance each service is around 350 there. Average total attendance per weekend for all 3 campuses is around 12,000 right now. Anyway, just wanted to make sure you knew how big Eagle Brook is. They do have things in place to help people connect, such as small groups. They have great kids programs too from what I hear. Good luck in your search!

K. - I can't recommend a church (my own is a little more of an older crowd), but I will recommend to you to look into Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). They have morning classes for women and since it looks like you work days, you might want to see if there are also evening classes near you. I know they do men's evening classes. Go to BSFInternational.org and click on their "find a class" link. Typically they group women together by age. They often have childcare options for ages 3 and older (kids learn the bible too). This year they are studying Moses. Each year is a different topic - last year it was Matthew. They have introduction classes once a month or so. It's interdenominational (in fact, you aren't allowed to talk about your church or the fact you are Catholic, Lutheran, Assembly of God, etc. - it's all about the bible). The format is 15 minutes of opening/devotional, 45 minutes or so of small group discussion (based on a set lesson each week) and then large group for lecture (which goes into depth about that week's lesson, applies it to our lives today, etc).
