Looking for a Good Bowling Place for Kids

My 3.5 year old really wants to try bowling. Does anyone know of a good place to take kids? Bumper bowling would be the best bet, and I don't want to take him somewhere that is smokey and gross. (Do bowling alleys like that even exist?!) Are there places that have family hours or kids hours? Thanks!

*****Thanks for all of the responses, ladies!! I think we're going to try Thunderbird in Troy this weekend. It's very close to us, recently remodeled, and all the lanes have automatic bumpers so adults and kids can play together. I'll let you know how it is!*****

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We went to Thunderbird in Troy this morning and it was great! We got there a few minutes after it opened and it wasn't crowded at all and there was no smoke. It was as clean as a bowling alley could be and we had a great time! We'll definitely go back...maybe next time the kids won't get antsy after only 4 frames! ;o)

Good Morning G.,
I know of two locations, but can't think of their names. The first one is on 14 Mile Road, west of Ryan, east of Dequindere that has a good kids program & another on 19 Mile Road, just west of John R in Troy. They were both acceptable places for the kids.

There are not many public bowling alleys that would fit your criteria (not smokey and gross) - smile. However, I do know of one (and only one). It is Fern Hill Bowling Alley. It is at the Fern Hill Country/Golf Club on Clinton River Road in Clinton Twp. GREAT location and price. They have some open bowling, but you can also rent for parties. It is a very SMALL alley, only 10-12 lanes I think...but VERY VERY CLEAN. They do have bumper bowl. We had my son's 6th birthday party there. It is on the north side of the Country Club entrance, almost around the back on the left (easy to miss). It is one of the best kept secrets around. Hope it fits your needs.

I heard that Thunderbird Lanes (on Maple in Troy) is smoke-free during the day. They also have cosmic bowling and use bumpers. My kids (ages 5) just went to a b-day party there and it was a HUGE hit! Their food isn't half bad either.
