Looking for a Crunchy-friendly Pediatrician

I'm due in a few months with our first and looking to find a pediatrician. Specifically, I'm looking for one that is comfortable with things like attachment parenting, cosleeping, EC, and who also is fine with us vaccinating on our schedule, not the CDC's. Ideally would be Mesa or nearby E. Valley but we're willing to travel. I'm hoping we can find one that takes our insurance, too. :) thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yeah, the vaccination thing is really the deal-breaker but I'd rather have a ped. that didn't roll their eyes at some of our kookiness. :) Our insurance listing for pediatricians is gigantic, I'm hoping someone has experience and can recommend someone to point us in the right direction a little faster, but if need be we'll just throw a dart at the list and start heading for interviews. Thanks everyone.

We use Dr. Salek at Pueblo Peds at Country Club and Baseline. I brought in Dr. Sears vaccination schedule and he said that was fine to do. The only thing was the MMR we couldn't break out like Dr. Sears recommends, we just pushed it out about a year.

You are allowed to ask and interview pediatricians. That is what I did for my children. We found a list of all the Dr.s within a certain proximity to our house who took our insurance, then called and set up an appointment to meet with them, then hubby and I wrote a list of questions and went in together and met then chose the best one for us.

That's what ya gotta do sister. Good Luck.

try asking your OBGYN - he gave me a list - then told me he took his kids to one of them. It has been the best doc I have found. Wish he took adults

We go to TLC Pediatrics in Ahwatukee. They're open about vaccinations, which is nice. However, cosleeping they're no open to. My pediatrician reminds every time the importance of her sleeping in her crib. I just nod my head. For now, she's still in bed with us and it's working great. Good luck!

Dr. Glen Garner is at East Valley Pediatrics on Higley and Southern. He is open minded and willing to listen to the parent. My kids have been going to him since they were3 and 5, so I haven't had the infant experience, but it is worth asking him if he is willing to work with you on your preferences. There are other doctors that are part of the group, so it is easy to get into the office the same day your child is sick. ###-###-####

I wouldn't be too concerned with whether or not your ped is ok with attachment parenting. We cosleep, and our ped is not a big fan of that. When she asked, I just said, "Oh, yes. He does sleep in his own bed." I'm not usually a proponent of lying, but I really like her other than that one issue and I've just decided it's ok to disagree with her on that issue.

The vaccine schedule is going to be the more important issue.

I never have luck with Pediatricians. I have 5 children and I found that taking them to our family doctor has worked better for us. I've fired every pediatrician I've ever taken my children too. =P But our family doctors are great!! I live in the West Valley but maybe if you don't find a Ped that you like, you can take your baby to your family doctor. I wish you the best!!

Can not recomend with the area as I am in Texas, but look for a Ped with a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy). I have found them to more open minded.

I love our pediatrician and I believe they do modified vaccination. It's called East Valley Child Care www.evcc.net and we usually see Dr. Marstiller but all docs are great. They are on Southern just east of the 101

We have an awesome ped whom i just adrore:

Desert Ridge Children's Center

Dr. Celeste Kuo is by far the best Dr in the Practice. She is a rock and so very down to earth. She has kids so she knows from experience.

Might be a bit of a hike but i absolutely love the office. The nurse pract. Ms. Diane is also very cool.

They are my two favs of the bunch but really check it out. We drive all the way from surprise!
