Need a Good Pediatrician

My fabulous pediatrician retired about six months ago. I am now looking for another one that I can trust. I have read all of the research on immunizations and have made the decision that I will not immunize my children. I am in the Gilbert area, but would be willing to go into Mesa or Chandler to see someone I can trust and that will respect the decision I have made about immunizations. I would appreciate any info that all of you other non-immunizing moms have.

What can I do next?

I had a Meet the Doc visit with Dr. Pendleton and she is not for a delayed vaccination schedule or vaccine-friendly. :( Good luck and hope you found a great pediatrician!

I send my kids to TLC peds in awatukee (40th and pecos). I immunize my kids, but I have other friends who use the same dr who do not...and as far as I am aware they respect that decision.

Hi T.! I'm also a mom of 3 and I take my kiddos to Pueblo Pediatrics on Country Club and Baseline...worth the trip since I live in Gilbert as well. Dr. Cimminello is easy going and great w/ all the kids no matter what age, Dr. Chiles is the "older, wiser" one, and all the other doctors and nurses are friendly and on the ball. They even have a separate "sick" child entrance so your healthy kids don't have to share those germy toys! Best of luck!

We see Dr Chang at Palo Verde Pediatrics. They are located on the SW corner of Val Vista and Elliot in Gilbert. There are four other doctors in the office as well. A few of my friends and daycare children see the other doctors and like them as well. Their office is clean, professional and has a well and sick side. Their number is ###-###-####.

i use Dr daryll Lamb in Queen Creek AZ, Ocotillo/Ellsworth
He does not broach the subject with you as it is a parents choice.
I live far away from him and sometimes have to use East VAlley Childrens center, and they are constantly like "There is a note here saying your children are not currently immunized" It makes me so mad. Like I don't have a brain in my head to make my own choices.!

I also don't immunize and LOVE my pediatrician. Her name is Trumpti Amin Chapman with East Valley Pediatrics ###-###-#### at Higley and Southern. (In case you were wondering, she speaks absolutely perfect English.) She has been awesome and actually three of my sisters use her. Two immunize and one doesn't. My youngest has a different ped. who is Dr. Norman Saba at Dobson and Southern and he has also been great. They have never given me a hard time about my decisions. I don't have his number off hand but you can look him up. HTH.

We use Mesa Pediatrics...Dr. DeMets. She is located in their San Tan office. They are FANTASTIC!!! We have chosen to immunize, but I know for a fact that they are very supportive of parents who choose not to. Go to their website mesapeds.com. They also have an amazing index on ALL issues..so if you have a question at 3 am you can get an answer. They have a fantastic staff and a quick response after hours. I am so glad we have Dr. DeMets!!!

Do you know that when your children are not immunized, they are at risk of contracting any of the diseases that we normally immunize against? There is a large outbreak of measles in the state of Arizona right now that may get more widespread. Those children who haven't been immunized are the ones who contract and spread the disease. We don't see these diseases very much anymore. Why? Because of immunizations. THis is not a "personal" issue...it is a public health issue. A "good" pediatrician would recommend that you immunize your children.

I have a Masters in Public Health and have worked in the field of public health for 14 years. I am also the mother of 2 beautiful daughters, ages 4 and 9 months.

I found our pediatrician from recommendations here at Mamasource. We dedided to go with Dr. Pendleton and are very pleased with her. My friend also went there and was very impressed with her. My friend's two children have a rare congenital condition, and Dr. Pendleton was expremely knowledgable about how to treat it, which is uncommon for most doctors regarding this particular condition. My daughter really liked her and she hd a great way with children. She is on Ray Road before Alma School I think, but double check that.

I respect your decision not to vaccinate your children, I personally do vaccinate my two year old. I am also a health care worker and know that their are consequences of not doing so, which I am sure that you are aware. I do have to warn you that living in Arizona we have many immigrants that are not vaccinated also. In America we have lower incidence of these childhood diseases do to our vaccination procedures. So with the addition of these unvaccinated people you run the risk of exposing your children to a potentially preventable fatal illness.

I have heard good things about Mesa pediatrics. You might try there. Usually pediatricians push vaccinations at well check ups. Do you go to well check ups? If not and you only take your kids in when they are sick, you might not even get bothered with it.

I love our pediatrician, Dr. Mehdi Salek, Pueblo Pediatrics. They have an office in Mesa and in Gilbert by the new Mercy/Gilbert hospital.
He recommends vaccinations, but I chose to opt my boys out of some of them, and he has been very respectful and very kind, not pushy at all.
Good luck in your search.

Hi T.,

Congrats on making the decision not to immunize! I don't anymore; but did when my kids were babies and regret it. One of my children has a disease (non threatening, thank goodness) due to immunization.

Anyway, our family sees a Naturopath and my children only see a formal pediatrician when they need a physical. They go to East Mesa Pediatrics and they respect our decision not to immunize. There # is ###-###-####. You could also try Mesa Pediatrics (our old ped) on Guadalupe/Greenfield at ###-###-####.

Good luck! :)

Hi T., my name is S.. I also have made the decision to not immunize my youngest son. The pediatrician I currently see has no problem with my decision and actually sounds like they get that quite often. They just ask if I mind telling them my reasons, when I did they said no problem and if I changed my mind to just let them know. I appreciate their approach even though I'm not found of the medical field as a whole. Mesa Pediatrics is who I take all three of my boys to. They have four locations in the valley. I can not seem to find them online right now, but their phone number is ###-###-####
We have three boys 6, 4 and 5 months
