My son with be 5 months on the 29th of March. I stopped breastfeeding after about 5-6 weeks. I leaked for the first week after that, but have since not had any leaking. In the shower today, I looked down and realized that I was leaking milk. I squeezed my nipple just to make sure that it was milk and not water. Sure enough, more came out. It looked more like colostrum instead of milk.
I am in the middle of what I think is my period right now, and am on the depo shot so I'm pretty sure that I'm not pregnant. I did post a question a little while ago about possibly being pregnant (Before my "period" arrived) because I was having a lot of other symptoms and just in general feeling pregnant (I know that the depo shot can mimic pregnancy). I haven't taken a test because just as I was about to break down and buy one my "period" arrived. Yet, I'm assuming that if I was producing milk because I was pregnant again I would have to really late in the pregnancy... And unless I'm one of those women with 2 uterus's (Which is impossible because I'm assuming that that would have been found on any ultrasounds I had during my son's pregnancy) I can't possibly be late in a pregnancy.
Anyways, is it normal for my milk to suddenly come back after so long of an absence?
I breastfed my son till he was 10 months old then he self weaned. Here I am with a 16 month old and I still leak here and there. I asked my PCP and she said she'd heard of women leaking YEARS after they stoped and it was no big deal. I think mine is gone then I look down and there is a wet spot. So, if it's abnormal guess there is a bunch of us abnormal together.
Milk will always still be present. Milk will never dry up.
I was like the human dairy bar when I was nursing my kids and the milk did take a long time to dry up and go away. Make sure you are expressing any milk out of each breast especially if you feel uncomfortable or like they might be getting "full". Do not pump or re-stimulate them, just get the milk out and then move on. If things don't stop in the next few days or weeks. tell your OB/GYN and they can give you something to halt this right away. I had the same issues and it took a while before my body figured out that the nursing was over. As long as I made sure each breast was empty and not engorged with milk, and did not nurse at all, after about 3 weeks, everything just stopped. In the meantime, be proactive and stick some nursing pads in your bra just in case a small leak occurs. And talk to you OB/GYN. You sound just like me though....another human dairy bar! LOL! It's a blessing to the babies but a curse on the Mom when we want to stop. It will go away. I promise!
I stopped breastfeeding my daughter at 6 months (she's now 10months) and during my period or right before I tend to leak colostrum like fluid as well. I was told it was normal. So that's probably what it is.
However- I still test when it does leak just because birth control, condoms, etc are not 100% effective. I know a few people who have become pregnant on depo, IUDs, and the pill. Hopefully that's not the case with you...but I'd test just to be certain. Good luck!
I was able to express milk for a LONG time after I quit nursing each of my children...and my doctors and ob/gyn were never concerned about it.
It is probably somehow connected with your cycle and hormone changes.
If it is bothersome ( causing you to have to wear pads because of the leakage etc) then I would talk to the doctor about medication or a shot to help dry your milk supply up.

i was leaking months after my 20 month self weaned LOL. so its not uncommon. i wouldnt worry. in the meantime, got any cuts? scrapes? rashes? try some milk on that, its amazing stuff. ;)

My children are 5 years apart and I never stopped making milk.
I stopped nursing my 3 year old when he was 15 months and I occasionally leak. It never really goes away.
